The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking highly-qualified and experienced candidates for the part-time, fixed-term position of Senior Manager, Foundations Relations. The Senior Manager will be part of the eleven-person Foundations and Program Liaison Office within the Development and Outreach Department which handles the fundraising and outreach activities of HRW. This is a fixed-term position for a 3-month period working an approximately 80% (32 hours per week) schedule. This position will be based in our London, Brussels, or Berlin office. The Senior Manager reports to the Senior Director of the Foundations and Program Liaison Office based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

- Increase European foundation support to HRW by creatively matching HRW’s programmatic interests with the funding priorities of foundations in Europe;
- Assist fundraising staff in Europe in building financial support for the organization by researching, identifying and cultivating foundations in cities where HRW is currently based;
- Assist in cultivating foundations in cities where HRW is not currently based, but compelling opportunities exist;
- Manage and deepen relationships with European foundations in cooperation with the Senior Director of Foundations and Program Liaison and other relevant fundraising staff;
- Liaise with Program staff on behalf of fundraising staff and donors to assist in the design and implementation of European outreach and advocacy strategies;
- Provide updates on relevant programmatic work to current and prospective European foundation donors;
- Collaborate with program colleagues and Foundations and Program Liaison Office writers to write proposals, stewardship reports, and other materials for existing and prospective donors as needed;
- Assemble budgets and financial reports in cooperation with Finance and Program staff, and Foundations and Program Liaison Office writers as needed; and
- Performing other responsibilities as may be required.
- A minimum of four to five years of front line fundraising or client management experience is required. Grant writing experience is preferred.

- Significant successful fundraising experience or client management experience is required.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills in English are required.
- The ability to convey conceptually complicated information in a succinct and compelling way, tailored to different audiences, is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW, as well as with external partners, are required.
- Experience in an international organization and familiarity with the international human rights donor community are required.
- Familiarity with and demonstrated commitment to international human rights is essential.
- Ability to think creatively, take initiative, and follow through is required.
- Excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritize and complete work under pressure are required.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and the discipline to work independently, but also the ability to function as a member of a development team are highly desirable.
