Germany continues to play a key role in Europe and in the world in its geopolitical influence on climate and energy issues, and yet remains one of the biggest polluters of the region with its massive coal operations, and the home of financial institutions providing the fossil fuel industry with billions in loans and subsidies.
We’re expanding our team in Germany (from 2 to 3 staff members) to be able to sharpen our strategy and increase our impact over the next crucial decade, as we’re introducing a revamped Fossil Free campaign that provides new tools and resources to fight against fossil fuel development and move us quickly in a just transition to 100% renewable energy that works for all and that puts people over profit.
This role will comprise a firm combination of consultative strategic leadership with hands-on implementation.
- Lead overall strategy development and implementation for our programmatic work in Germany, and lead on implementation of one of its components or areas of work, including through research, digital and media communications, content development, and offline organising.
- Build and maintain partnerships and networks to fulfill the organisation’s goals, and to further shape 350.org as an impactful, influential and movement-generous actor in the German climate movement.
- Produce content and resources to support the roll-out of our work in Germany.
- Provide effective and people-centered line management to Germany Team members, that is based on 350 values and culture.
- Develop analysis and research that enable us to take advantage of strategic opportunities maximising our political and movement impact.
- Under the leadership and guidance of the Europe Communications Coordinator, deliver elements of communications work in Germany.
- Provide leadership, connection and support on other areas of global and regional work, as appropriate.
- 5-10 years of experience in a campaigning role for a grassroots group, NGO, or political organisation
- excellent communicator in German, including public writing and speaking for various media and audiences
- professional-level fluency in English, both speaking and writing
- a track record of developing and delivering great strategy and compelling visions
- experience managing projects and project teams
- excellent people management skills, with ability to unleash the potential of staff and volunteers, and provide support and guidance
- comfortable working both independently and in teams, highly responsive, and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others
Desired (but not required) qualifications
- a network of connections with climate- and energy-focused NGOs, political groups, policy-makers and social movements
- a strong understanding of energy/climate politics at both a national and local level
- digital and media communications skills and experience
- experience in online campaigning and offline organizing, mass mobilisations, and direct action
- demonstrated proficiency around equity, diversity, and anti-oppression work inside organisations
- comfortable working remotely with colleagues in multiple time-zones and in multi-cultural group, through online tools
- experience building and maintaining partnerships and networks, preferably in the progressive/grassroots campaigning sector
- experience working across countries to run effective cross-regional / global campaigns
Compensation: 46,000–57,500 EUR
