The Marine Conservation and Climate Adaptation Program (MCCAP) Project Coordinator works in the Belize program office and provides administrative, research, project management and other general assistance to program staff working toward the achievement of the MCCAP Project goals for protection, conservation or stewardship goals. The position is part time and for 16 months.
The MCCAP Project Coordinator may manage conservation data, participate in project planning, develop project packages, and maintain manual project records. May include collecting, assembling and analyzing various types of data, in the field or through document surveys, producing maps using GIS software and assisting in the production of reports. Work may be done in the field (species monitoring) or be based entirely in an office setting, compiling the information collected by others.
- Implementing on the ground MCCAP funded sustainable seaweed mariculture conservation project –
- Providing support for the development and execution of sub-project activities, sub-awards and contracts
- Providing support for the development and management of budgets for sub-project activities
- Coordination of project logistics, meetings and consultations
- Coordination and direct implementation of community support, maintaining communication channels with partners, coordinating multiple sub-projects, setting deadlines and managing timely completion
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
General
- Supervises no staff but may oversee and direct work of office volunteers or interns.
- Coordinates multiple tasks or sub-projects in a timely manner and with attention to work quality and detail.
- May assist with budget preparation and monitoring for sub-project activities.
- The MCCAP Project Coordinator may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
- Makes day to day decisions as delegated by the supervisor.
Specific:
- Monitor of Project implementation plan.
- Monitoring timely execution of Project deliverables.
- Organize and facilitate team meetings to assure orderly implementation.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for the development of governance and management framework for seaweed production
- Coordinate meetings of stakeholders in the development of a formal government policy for the sustainable production of seaweed in Belize
- Provide support for timely execution of sub-awards and contracts with relevant partners.
- Facilitate increase in production and consistency in seaweed supply
- Accompany closely the establishment and implementation of experimental farms as determined within the project.
- At least one site visit per month to each farm.
- Bi-Weekly mentoring of farmer and partners.
- Close monitoring of pilot development goals and achievement of pilot project milestones.
- Support activities to increase access to premium and diversified markets.
- Facilitate the interaction with consultants in the identification of international buyers and high-end niche markets. Provide logistical support between TNC and potential buyers to give Belize seaweed more exposure.
- Support workshops and team activities in the development of diversified seaweed products.
- Ensures compliance with the Conservancy’s internal policies, and external requirements such as research permits, among others.
- 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience coordinating multiple projects.
- Experience handling standard business communications.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
- Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and Spanish
- 2-4 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with fishers, non-governmental organizations, private entities, and government.
- Ability and willingness to apply science to decision-making and guide activities.
- Ability to complete tasks independently within assigned time frames.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, with assignments sometimes coming from a number of sources and work independently.
- Ability to coordinate project information from a number of sources to populate databases, create reports and produce manual files.
- Experience utilizing databases for data entry and report production preferred.
- Strong administrative skills including attention to detail and numerical ability.
- Ability to plan, administer and record results of work-team meetings and activities.
