The YMCA of Centre County is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual to fill the role of Payroll Coordinator.

Under the direction of the Finance/HR Director, the Payroll Coordinator is responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll for the Association as well as the overall organization and maintenance of personnel files. The Payroll Coordinator is also responsible for organizing and processing volunteer paperwork and some Accounts Payable functions.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Payroll/HR

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for the Association using our automated payroll service.
  • Ensure that all new hire paperwork is complete and accurate.
    • Perform PA Criminal Background checks on all potential employees through the Pennsylvania State Police website.
    • Send electronic hiring paperwork to new staff; once complete enter their information into our payroll system. Communicate with the management team upon completion.
    • Issue letter of employment once new hire paperwork is complete and the employee has been cleared.
    • Ensure that all new hires complete both the PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint Clearances within the time frame allotted as well as all required trainings.
  • Pull reports on a weekly basis to ensure that all required certifications based on the employee's position are current.
  • Complete employment verifications as needed.
  • Facilitate the New Hire Orientation.
  • Complete other tasks such as filing and general maintenance of employee files.

Volunteers

  • Review packets for completeness and screen all volunteers through Raptor.
  • Ensure that volunteers submit the required clearances and training certifications for their position within the allotted time frame.
  • Notify the department head of the volunteer's eligibility based on the result of the criminal check and packet completeness.

Accounts Payable

  • Enter invoices into the accounting software for the Association
  • When vendor checks are printed by the Finance/HR Director, pull invoices and mail.

Other Functions

  • Assume equal responsibility for all housekeeping responsibilities - general tidiness of the office area
  • Filing as needed/requested
  • Participate in recommended trainings
  • Perform additional duties as requested
Educational Background: 
2 year degree in a related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2 years related work experience directly with payroll.
  • Excellent clerical skills plus a demonstrated proficiency in various computer software including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent human relations/written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to successfully complete concurrent assignments without direct supervision.
  • A high level of organization and commitment to the position and the YMCA mission.

Required Certifications

  • Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training must be completed within the firs 90 days of employment and every 3 years thereafter.
  • Mandated Reporter Training must be completed within the first 90 days of employment and every 5 years thereafter.
  • Darkness to Light - Stewards of Children Facilitator certification within the first year of employment.
  • Pennsylvania Family State Alliance Mandated Reporter Training Facilitator certification within the first year of employment.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $12.00 - $15.00
