Under the supervision of the CEO, the Operations Director is responsible for overall supervision and leadership of all Child Care programs (Pre School, Before and After School, and Camp), Youth Sports, Adult Sports, Teens, Aquatics, and Health & Wellness departments for the Waldo County YMCA. The Operations Director is responsible for revenue growth, fiscal management within departments supervised, financial development, facility cleanliness related to program spaces, hiring, training and supervision of staff of these departments. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image and core values of the Waldo County YMCA are conveyed.
- Overall responsibility for leading the program department leaders in all Child Care programs (PreSchool, Before and After School, and Camp), Youth Sports, Adult Sports, Teens, Aquatics, and Health & Wellness, and provide support to the operations of each of these departments. This includes member satisfaction, programming and services.
- Provide leadership to program department leaders in hiring, training, supervision, and continued development of all staff under position’s umbrella.
- Review and evaluate staff performance, develops strategies to motivate staff to develop competencies that support and achieve the organization’s and department goals. Ensure duties, responsibilities and accountabilities of all direct reports are defined and understood. Effectively communicate to staff the standards of performance.
- Work with Department Directors to promote and enhance program philosophy and goals.
- As necessary, act as a liaison between member and program regarding parent or participant concerns and work as the key leader to assure that a safe, fun and quality program is provided in all areas.
- General oversight of all programs in accordance with the policies, values, and standards established by the Waldo County YMCA.
- Oversee all Childcare programs ensuring compliance to State of Maine standards.
- Responsible for facilitating each department’s revenue growth and overall enhancement and increase of programs and services.
- Accountable for each department’s budget development and management. Ensure a strong fiscal position and appropriate resource allocation.
- Ensure all program operations are consistent with Waldo County YMCA procedures, including maintenance, emergency, accident, purchasing, personnel, and accounting systems.
- Implement programs that identify safety, quality, and excellent customer service as top priorities.
- Serve as a member of the Waldo County YMCA staff team, assisting with special events, programming, and committees as assigned.
- Represent and promote the YMCA in the local community and develop positive working relationships with other organizations and businesses. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with local community agencies.
- Work with the CEO to maintain and further develop contacts with community agencies, corporations, and potential donors.
- Assume full leadership of the Waldo County Y operations in CEO’s absence.
- Work with board members, volunteers as required.
- Assist with identifying potential donors.
- Maintain all required certifications.
- Attend all required meetings and training.
- At least five years’ YMCA experience implementing and managing high quality and large volume programs.
- At least two years’ experience in a supervisory role with skills in recruiting, training and staff management.
- Must be self-motivated, hands-on team leader with strong communications, networking and collaboration skills.
- High level of attention to detail and quality of programming, service and facilities.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage several projects at once and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Polished, professional demeanor with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Demonstrated success in driving revenue and managing expenses.
- Experience in fundraising: identification of potential donors, individual gift solicitation and cultivation preferred.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
