The In-Country Consultant, China will support expansion efforts on behalf of Girl Up in China towards the goals of building new Girl Up Clubs and growing an engaged constituency of supporters throughout the country. The In-Country Consultant, China will manage multiple deliverables including Girl Up Club recruitment and support, student outreach, local partner cultivation, event management and communications efforts throughout China. The In-Country Consultant, China will work closely with the program, communications, and partnership teams to ensure cohesion in Girl Up’s efforts to expand in China in 2018.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop and execute a growth strategy for Girl Up in China, including engaging in outreach efforts to schools, community-based organizations and other local partners.
- Cultivate and support a minimum of 12 active Girl Up Clubs across China by the end of 2018.
- Complete regular reporting requirements and work closely with Girl Up program team to ensure cohesive execution of Girl Up Club strategy.
- Plan and coordinate efforts for a Girl Up event(s) in China, with a minimum of 50 participants, focused on recruiting and training new leaders.
- Develop and update resources, toolkits and other content to inspire and support Girl Up Clubs and leaders throughout China, in both English and Mandarin.
- Work closely with the Girl Up communications team to ensure consistent Girl Up branding and messaging in China.
- Launch and maintain Girl Up’s social media presence in China, including the development of Instagram, Facebook and Twitter engagement strategies.
- Develop and maintain press contacts in China as they relate to Girl Up’s programming and issue areas.
- Review digital or other content that has been translated from English to Mandarin.
- Represent Girl Up at external events and speaking engagements in China, as requested.
Educational Background:
College degree required.
Skills/Experience:
- Fluent in both English and Mandarin mandatory.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in related field with strong track record of success.
- Experience in engaging diverse grassroots constituencies in China, such as youth, university students, civil society groups, or faith-based communities.
- Strong attention to detail, and the ability to execute a program from start to finish.
- Experience managing social media platforms and developing communications strategies.
- Excellent team-player with the ability to build consensus across different stakeholders.
- Self-starter with strong entrepreneurial spirit.
- Strong commitment to gender equality and youth development.
- Ability to work legally in China.
- Ability to travel to the United States and throughout China.
- Ability to translate content from English to Mandarin.
- Ability to occasionally be online and available during U.S. business hours.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
