The Conservation Scientist provides technical and scientific support for conservation initiatives in Conservation by Design 2.0 (CbD2.0) and measures of conservation success (MOS).

The Conservation Scientist collects and manages necessary ecological and socio-economic data for conservation planning. They prioritize conservation areas and actions, provide strategic guidance and technical leadership for conservation initiatives.  Conservation Scientist designs and conducts scientific surveys and research, records and analyzes data, writes reports and develops proposals in order to administer and coordinate conservation programs within a conservation or business unit. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide technical and scientific support in the project planning, implementation and effectiveness evaluation, with a focus on applications and innovations on methodology, modelling tools, data analysis and report writing.
  • Design, manage and oversee scientific surveys and monitoring projects and coordinate the work of other professionals within and outside the organization.
  • Perform fieldwork including ecosystem assessment and field monitoring.
  • Deliver tools, biodiversity data, field services and training to staff and partners.                                  
  • Summarize the currently available experiences, methodology and tools in conservation science and develop standards, guidance and toolbox that can be applied in China Working within science team and/or with partners
  • Publish peer reviewed scientific papers and books/guidelines.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, in hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
Educational Background: 
Master's Degree in science related field and at least 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience collecting, manipulating, analyzing and interpreting scientific data.
  • Experience preparing reports of findings

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor Degree with 1- year experience or master's Degree in science related field with 3 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Strong knowledge of computer technology and common software applications.
  • Record of peer reviewed publications in scientific journals.
  • Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people.
  • Physical ability to perform filed work
  • Ability to travel frequently and work in isolated environment
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Training experiences.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
