The Health Education & Promotion Manager is responsible for managing a staff of Health Education Specialists who provide Alzheimer’s disease education, training, quality-assurance assessments, information, community engagement and follow-up for lay and professional audiences, within our 5 county region.  The Health Education & Promotion Manager is responsible for providing overall strategy, planning and evaluation activities for all Health Education staff and assuring that all applicable Alzheimer’s Association strategic implementation objectives are met. This position oversees the Health Education & Promotion strategies and outcomes of the chapter, serves as the subject matter expert for Health Education and is a resource to Chapter staff and constituents.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Health Education & Promotion (50%)

  • Deliver health education programming on Alzheimer’s disease throughout the chapter territory to constituencies including: professional providers, family caregivers, persons with disease and community stakeholders
  • Coordinate participation in high profile community events (e.g. conferences, expos)
  • Identify, engage, and partner with community organizations, faith-based organizations, governmental entities, healthcare organizations, and businesses to expand the reach and impact of the Alzheimer’s Association
  • Actively engage new volunteers, partner organizations, and other stakeholders through year-round outreach efforts to build working relationships and collaborate on Association initiatives on behalf of constituents who would benefit from Association programs and services
  • Maximize exposure in minority populations including Hispanic, African-American, and LGBT
  • Coordinate with the Marketing & Communications Manager to market health education and outreach activities
  • Lead and oversee planning, promotion, and logistics activities for the annual Foley Lecture
  • Oversee volunteer staffing of community health fairs

Administration & Planning (50%)

  • Oversee and develop tactics for all applicable strategic implementation plan objectives
  • Assess community needs and identify new opportunities for service delivery
  • Plan and implement targeted outreach to key constituencies, geographically and demographically
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive community engagement plan to engage partners and volunteers
  • Plan, implement and oversee the Portfolio of Common Education Program Plans through the use of staff and volunteers
  • Develop an on-going volunteer-powered education program delivery model
  • Train volunteers and staff on education programming activities
  • Provide management oversight/guidance and conduct performance evaluations to the team of Health Education staff members
  • Cross-collaborate as applicable within and across chapter divisions to advance the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association
  • Oversee continuing education credit certifications/requirements (e.g. social work, nursing etc.) in conjunction with the Common Education Program Plan
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of statistical reports in compliance with grant and organizational standards (e.g. SAMS)
  • Ensure accurate and timely program activity documentation within internal tracking systems (e.g. Personify)
  • Ensure quality assurance and tracking measures are in place (e.g. CSQEI)
Educational Background: 
Master’s degree in public health, health education, health sciences, health promotion, gerontology, sociology, psychology, or related field with at least 2 years of direct health education experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisor experience with success in meeting goals and metrics for service delivery and quality assurance
  • Experience  in community engagement, outreach, or collaboration or partnership building
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, developing and conducting programs related to health
  • Experience working with diverse and minority community populations including Latino, African Americans, and LGBT
  • Ability to oversee and direct the work of Health Education Specialists, volunteers and students
  • Requires high degree of creative and original thinking in identifying new programs, new avenues for outreach, new relationships and developing person-centered programming
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency in maintaining systems and procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Apps
  • Ability to analyze data/information and make timely, appropriate decisions
  • Ability to work effectively with planning tactics and strategy development
  • Ability to be flexible where there are high expectations for meeting tight deadlines and for producing work that is accurate
  • Ability to constructively coach more junior staff as well as ability to take coaching from senior management
  • Health education experience and must develop working knowledge about Alzheimer's disease and its impact on families and caregivers
  • Autonomously work in the field, some weekend and evening work required
  • Must possess valid driver's  license, access to a reliable vehicle, and proof of valid automobile  insurance 
  • Travel is required within the five-county service area including Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Geauga and Ashtabula counties                  

 PREFERRED

  • Strong public health experience highly preferred
  • Current Credentialing for health education or related field (e.g. CHES, MCHES)
  • Bilingual Spanish when appropriate
