The Membership/Wellness Director is responsible for all aspects of membership and wellness for the branch.


The Membership/Wellness Director will direct all aspects of membership and wellness for the branch including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff. This position will also develop, organize and implement high quality YMCA program(s) related to membership and wellness best practices.

Baton Rouge is Louisiana’s “Capital City” and the hub of all things Louisiana. Areas of Responsibility: 
  1. Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  3. Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments.
  4. Assists in the marketing and distribution of information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program financial assistance applications.
  5. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with members and participants. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  6. Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
  7. Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff. Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.
  8. Ensures proper implementation of wellness and group exercise procedures. Reviews and updates these procedures and communicates changes to staff.
  9. Establishes new activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  10. Organizes membership and wellness events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  11. Leads assigned aspects of the fund-raising campaign.
  12. Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 
  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
  2. One to two years related experience preferred.
  3. Ability to teach varied exercise modalities and/or group exercise certification preferred.
  4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
