The Louisiana State Office of AARP is seeking a bright, organized self-starter to become part of a busy team to assist in advancing initiatives that benefit persons who are 50+. The intern will work with the Advocacy Associate State Director to analyze, write, and produce materials for legislators, media and the public.
Areas of Responsibility:
- The intern will monitor legislative activities; research policy issues; assist with volunteer training and engagement; support social media and online initiatives; assist with planning and implementing grassroots organizing tactics; and help coordinate statewide workshops on various issues.
Educational Background:
Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be undergraduate juniors or seniors.
Skills/Experience:
- Additional requirements include the ability to work well with diverse populations, commitment to the goals and priorities of AARP, ability to collaborate with other organizations around AARP priority issues; good organizational and communications skills; and skilled in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media and online research tools.
- Political Science, Communications, or related majors are preferred.
Compensation/Benefits:
- Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
