This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth and Family Director is responsible for the successful operation of School Age Child Care, Day Camp, Child Food Programs and NAEYC accredited pre-school programs. 

The Youth and Family Director will directly supervise program staff and recruit, plan, promote and evaluate for those programs. The director will provide leadership and support to the teachers, volunteers, children and families at all existing sites, continuing program growth, quality and follow association policy and procedures. The position will include the development and administration of the department and programs. Additional responsibilities include special projects, community relations/involvement, program innovation, site/program observations.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruit, hire and train a team of highly skilled staff and volunteers that appropriately relate to all members and the general public. Including effective delegation of duties for the Before and After School Care and Summer Day Camp Coordinator
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community with a track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
  • Must be proactive, self-directed and highly motivated.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and manage multiple program areas at multiple locations. 
  • Must have proven results with experience in building and implementing child, teen, adult and family programming 
  • Plan, supervise, and implement the program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Y, ensuring the well-being and safety of the children and staff at all times.
  • Maintain operation of the program consistent with DHS regulations in preparing for state licensing inspections.
  • Supervise all staff assigned to site and arrange coverage to meet required ratios; provide written evaluations quarterly.
  • Compile daily enrollment and attendance statistics for each child in the program.
  • Prepare and distribute written communication with the parents (e.g. monthly newsletters) and assist in Y sponsored events.
  • Maintain knowledge of Association policies and procedures, risk management, safety practices and applicable laws.
  • Ability to lift equipment, run, walk, lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time
Educational Background: 
BA/BS degree in related field or equivalent experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-4 years supervisory experience preferred
  • Applicant must meet requirements for State of Maine Licensing for childcare
  • Must be 21 years to apply and pass comprehensive background check
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and Basic First Aid, CDL License or willing to gain within 90 days of employment
  • Strong proficiency in microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to expalin information to diverse groups of volunteers and all levels of staff
  • Understanding of basic accounting concepts and applications including cash reconciliation, accounts receivable, accounts payable and budgeting
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,000.00 - $41,000.00
