The Childcare/Camp Director of the MDI YMCA provides a warm, engaging environment for children, staff, and parents which meets the quality standards set up by the YMCA nad the State of Maine DHHS licensing requirements. The Childcar/Camp Director will also be in charge of ensuring the childcare programs are developmentally sound and provides positive channels for the chilren to grow, learn, and thrive to their full potential.
The Childcare/Camp Director will also be a part of the MDI community, ensuring that the childcare programs are meeting the needs of the citizens it serves in a manner consistent with the YMCA mission.
Ensuring that the childcare programs remain fiscally sound and sustainable as well as developing a cohesive staff team that is committed to growing a successful childcare and camp program will always be a priority.
- Represent the YMCA personally and professionally in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA.
- Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising staff under his/her direction.
- Responsible for developing and managing the Childcare and Camp budgets.
- Conduct him/herself in a caring, responsible, honest, and respectful manner, and be a positive role model for children and parents.
- Under the direction of the Executive Director, develop, implement, and supervise all program activties, including classroom curriculum for Preschool, After School, Kidstop Babysitting, Vacation Camps, Summer Day Camp programs, transportation routes, special evens, and the Who's Cool After School Program.
- Keep safety of programs as a first priority. Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well-being with the staff, children, parents, and oher child care personnel at all times.
- Use positive and constructive mthods of behavior management and ensures tha all staff does the same.
- Develop and maintain an efective record keeping system to include the completion of children's evaluations and proper reporting to parents and agencies.
- Ensure active paren involvement.
- Be responsible for purchasing materials and supplies.
- Provides a warm, flexible, engaging and attractive encironment for children, staff, volunters, and parents.
- Assists with registration, orientation, and billing for program participants.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. (Remains flexible).
- Regular attend staff meeting and provide leadership and coordination within the professional staff team.
- Attend trainings as necessary.
- Candidate(s) must be First Aid/CPR Certified within four months of employment and attend Child Abuse Prevention Training within three months.
- Candidate(s) must have good human relation skills to faciliate positive relationships with communit agencies, staff, parents, volunteers, and program participants.
- Candidate(s) must have good organizaional skills and be committed to the philosophy and goals of the YMCA. Candidate(s) should serve on the Program Committee or other committees as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Candidate(s) should know how to manage administrative responsibilities of the childcare department in accordance with state regulation and association policies and procedures.
- Candidate(s) has the ability to develop a cohesive team through goal setting and staff development.
- Candidate(s) should be willing to work with the Marketing Director to ensure quality promotion of childcare and camp programs, but should be able to market and promote programs on their own through local schools, newspapers, and flyers.
- Candidate(s) should know how to develop and follow departmental budget plans for childcare and camp.
- 5+ years preferred but not required.
