Contributes to the achievement of strategic priorities by providing professional level coordination for state and local volunteer recruitment, training, support, retention and recognition, as well providing professional level communications support and coordination. Manages projects, creates project-related materials, and determines resources necessary to complete projects. Makes presentations, keeps records, prepares reports, and drafts correspondence. Incumbents(s) in this position may perform all or a significant combination of the tasks described below depending on operational requirements, assigned location, and individual areas of expertise.
- Works directly with AARP Maryland State Office staff to fully engage volunteers in advocacy, community outreach, and communications activities as they relate to the state plan, and to ensure implementation activities across AARP Maryland’s strategic priorities.
- Manages social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and live video-streaming.
- Works with Associate State Directors (ASDs) on the strategizing and implementation of all state activities and events such as shreds, large scale expos, volunteer trainings, rallies, and tabling events, workshops, fairs, and video/teleconferences.
- Assists with the development and implementation of advocacy campaigns, communications strategies, social media tactics and channels, web placement, newsletter coordination, and some partner/media relations to help inform the public on issues of concern to AARP.
- Assists with the intake of potential and new volunteers, and includes phone calls and e-mail follow up. Delivers strong communications to volunteers to consistently keep them up-to-date on state office activities and opportunities for volunteerism.
- Demonstrates a high level of competence and confidence with oral and written communications, public presentations, and media interviews.
- Organizes and maintains all marketing materials, banners, and branded promotional items, assisting in the marketing, outreach, and logistics for events and sponsorships.
- Comfortable in navigating AARPs systems and processes including Navigator, Volunteer Portal, Teradata, OGCs MOUs, Cvent, Convio, AMOS, and Print & Fulfillment.
- Manages and arranges member offerings, MOU management (input to OGC), and flyer development.
- Coordinates workshops, fairs, video/teleconferences.
- Manages projects, events, and activities within an assigned budget.
- Works closely with national office staff, community partners, and policy makers.
- Demonstrates AARP values in all interactions.
- 3+ years of experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
- Skilled in using the Microsoft 365 software package (Word, Excel and PowerPoint, OneNote).
- Skilled in using the MacBook Pro highly desirable.
- Some knowledge and understanding of the state and local political, social and human services environment is preferred.
