We are seeking a Director of Learning Experiences to design, manage, and facilitate learning for members of the Teach For America Baltimore community across the continuum from accepted corps members through alumnihood, with a particular focus on the 1st year experience.  This Director is charged with ensuring those who join TFA Baltimore have a strong orientation to the corps and access to rigorous learning experiences that equip them to be vision driven leaders who are resilient in the face of challenge and operate with a collective mindset by the end of the first year of their corps commitment. 

The Director, Learning Experiences will lead a diverse set of learnings grounded in Teach For America’s Theory of Leadership, creating a vision in partnership with participants, building community culture, facilitating experiences, coaching, assessing progress, and enlisting outside experts, where applicable.  Because of the diversity of the learning experiences, this role requires an entrepreneurial spirit and ability to coach, facilitate, and lead in diverse scenarios while being responsive to a variety of participants’ needs.  This Director of Learning Experiences will also provide Intensive Coaching support as a differentiated coaching experience supplementing the ongoing coaching of our coach team.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Create and lead learning experiences for incoming and 1st year corps members aligned to Teach For America’s Theory of Leadership (30%)

  • Design and facilitate internal and external learning experiences grounded in Baltimore’s Theory of Leadership. 

Recruit, Support, Hire, Train, and Retain 1st Year Content Specialists (20%)

  • Build strong relationships
  • Manage laterally
  • Train Facilitators

Intensive Coaching Support (20%)

  • Provide intensive short term coaching to corps members and alum who want to see drastic improvements in classroom culture.

Knowledge Management & Finance (10%)

  • Ensure all external partners are hired and paid in accordance with team guidelines. 
  • Update TFACT consistently and promptly following learning experiences.
  • Upload sessions, project plans, reflections, and success metrics from all learning experiences to prescribed centralized database. 

Learning Team Responsibilities (10%)

  • Prepare for and lead check ins with your manager around progress toward your goals and your ongoing development
  • Coordinate with members of the learning experiences team to ensure clarity of vision and data alignment across incoming corps  and corps member experience milestones and outcomes
  • Partner with the Associate, Learning.
  • Partner with Teach For America’s national organization to leverage leadership development opportunities for 1st year corps members facilitated by the national organization

Regional Team responsibilities (10%)

  • Participate in regional duties as assigned such as recruitment, selection, and matriculation events, along with other cross-functional duties and initiatives that accelerate our collective progress toward our regional plan and direction
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree at a minimum
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5-7 years professional experience, including at least 3 years of successful classroom leadership
  • Experience coaching adults and designing programming for adult leaders.
  • Previous experience designing and/or facilitating resources relating to cultural competence, or diversity, equity, and inclusiveness preferred.
  • Real-Time Coaching certification highly preferred.
  • High level of personal responsibility with exceptional goal orientation and a proven track record of success.
  • Strong designer and facilitator of learning experiences
  • Ability to set and evolve project vision and direction
  • Exceptional ability to build and execute a project plan
  • Exceptional strategic and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to influence others and manage laterally to outcomes

Work Demands

  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Ability to travel independently to multiple meeting sites distances from one another
  • Ability to navigate school facilities that may or may not be ADA-compliant
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 30 pounds for work purposes
