Teach For America Baltimore seeks an analytical, detail-oriented data and research champion to quantify and communicate the impact of our 1,200 corps members and alumni in Baltimore.  This person will lead the collection, analysis and presentation of our key performance metrics for the Baltimore region. They will collaborate with team leaders to identify the strongest leading and lagging performance measures to ensure we make the best in-year (current) and out-year (future) strategic decisions. Understanding the importance of driving towards quantitative measures, they will thoughtfully invest and support team members in collecting a broad set of data measures. Finally, they research important factors in the region’s performance, including opportunities to improve our programmatic effectiveness to ensure we live up to our commitments to students and communities.

The Data and Research staff member reports to the Chief of Staff and will be a member of the Talent and Operations team. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Data Analysis and Reporting (45%)

  • Clean, structure and analyze cross-functional data for purposes of reporting, analytics and visualizations
  • Design and produce reports that summarize a cross-section of top-line data on fundamental measures of organizational success; present information in a way that maximizes insight and action for end users; and leverage sophisticated technical approaches to enable dramatically enhanced team productivity
  • Develop and utilize vibrant feedback channels to enhance and support these reports
  • Regularly create communications to disseminate to team leaders, Executive Director, Advisory Board and external partners. Infusing both content and format for maximum internalization
  • Run data reports, analyze the data and create monthly compliance dashboards that provide leaders and managers with a point-in time report of their teams’ compliance efforts
  • On a quarterly basis (and in some cases more frequently), perform analysis of team, portfolio and org-wide results in order to identify area of improvement, challenges and progress made

Cross-Department Data Collaboration, Planning and Training (20%)

  • Partner with the Chief of Staff and cross-department team leads to set, refine and implement our regional reporting strategy
  • Lead and execute other cross-department data and reporting projects as needed, setting the vision and direction and developing project goals, timelines, and measures of success
  • Develop and maintain highly collaborative working relationships across all department teams to build the network and knowledge base necessary for this body of work

Regional Research and Performance Evaluation (20%)

  • Support the Chief of Staff in designing and executing a research plan, synthesizing findings, and making recommendations that play a critical role in communicating Teach For America Baltimore impact
  • Work with our partnering school district(s) to obtain meaningful data related to corps member and alumni impact to best tell our story and to adjust our practice
  • Research phase could be inclusive of lit reviews, consulting with other non-profit organizations, focus groups, case studies, etc

Regional Responsibilities (15%)

  • Participate in region- and organization-wide initiatives and events such as corps member selection, staff learning and development days, new corps member confirmation, and other events
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 6 years of experience organizing and managing robust data, conducting analysis, and displaying information in insightful ways (can include classroom positions)
  • Distinctive impact/progression of increasing responsibility in previous work
  • Experience using data system platforms (Salesforce, SAP business objects, PowerBI, etc.) and software packages to clean, aggregate and analyze data to extract meaning and insights
  • A track record of managing multiple projects to completion and working with key stakeholders
  • A history of operating and leading in the spirit of Teach For America's Core Values and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness
  • Education industry knowledge and experience desired

Skills

  • Advanced data reporting skills using Excel and strong proficiency using PowerPoint to present complex information to a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, critical consciousness, and ability to work across lines of difference
  • Ability to envision, plan and project-manage multiple complex, collaborative projects simultaneously, leveraging available resources to achieve impeccable follow-through on execution
