Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance, Inc. (GBLA) is currently seeking a Senior Paralegal to work under immediate supervision of a licensed attorney. The Sr. Paralegal is expected to exercise initiative and judgment in legal research, document composition, and overall case-handling.  May also be required to participate in outreach and community legal education to clients and community groups so as to provide clients or others with general information and assistance

The Sr. Paralegal is expected to exercise initiative and judgment in legal research, document composition, and overall case-handling.  May also be required to participate in outreach and community legal education to clients and community groups so as to provide clients or others with general information and assistance

Educational Background: 
1. Completion of an approved legal professional training program, or, a BA Degree and a minimum of 1 year of law-related experience, or, a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of 3 years of law-related experience.
Skills/Experience: 

 

  1. Completion of an approved legal professional training program, or, a BA Degree and a minimum of 1 year of law-related experience, or, a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of 3 years of law-related experience.
  2. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  3.  Good research and analytical skill
  4. Strong oral and written communication skills
  5.  Experience and sensitivity serving low-income and elderly people
  6.  Knowledge of various legal documents and their uses; filing procedures and legal terminology; legal office practices and procedures
  7.  Ability to collect and examine factual data; understand and apply legal principles and precedents; draft letters, pleadings and other legal documents; make logical presentations of statements of fact; establish and maintain effective working relationships with attorneys, officials and the general public
  8. Bilingual - English/Spanish, desirable.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary DOE.  Generous benefit package includes paid vacation and sick leave, medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurances.  Also includes twelve paid
