Teach For America seeks an entrepreneurial leader to launch its Greater Austin site, where 850 Teach For America alumni are currently working to closing the opportunity gap for 250,000 students. The right leader for this role has a the skills to supercharge the collective efforts of TFA alumni, district partners, community members and families for the benefit of all kids who call the Greater Austin area home.
The Greater Austin Director role will oversee the expansion of Teach For America’s movement in Greater Austin. The individual in this role will be the face of Teach For America in the community and own developing a strategy for Teach For America’s first alumni-only region nationwide. Your goals and responsibilities will include the following:
- Develop and maintain a 5 year vision and strategy for ensuring Teach For America and its alumni are making an impact in the lives of children in Greater Austin through transforming the schools and school systems that serve them
- Raise required funding for organization to sustain and grow over time
- Position TFA to lead and/or have a seat at every critical education conversation in Greater Austin
- Build and maintain relationships with Teach For America’s most critical stakeholders in Austin
- Establish the most desirable, highest-impact nonprofit board in Greater Austin who will help sustain and grow TFA’s scale
- Support and strengthen the leadership of the TFA Alumni Board
- Propel the work and mission of Teach For America by developing a cohesive network, shared identity and collective education movement amongst alumni and inclusive of the broader community
- Establish the most desirable, highest impact nonprofit board in Austin
- Passionate about Teach For America’s core tenets, core values, and commitment to diversity, equity, & inclusion
- A compelling communicator who motivates diverse groups to action
- Successful at and energized by raising money for a bold mission
- A vision setter who develops strategies grounded in community opportunities and needs
- Highly independent and motivated by self-directed personal growth
- Energized by achieving results in complex circumstances
- Knowledgeable about and proximate to education reform work in Greater Austin
- Experienced in building strong, cohesive, and productive people networks
- Understanding of the Austin context with specific knowledge about the education climate
- Experienced with significant leadership (minimum of 7 years) in managing high-performing efforts toward ambitious outcomes
