The Alzheimer's Association Capital of Texas area seeks to hire an enthusiastic, passionate and organized Walk & Communications Specialist to oversee all aspects of the Georgetown Walk to End Alzheimer's. They will ensure the success of this walk by recruiting, managing and partnering directly with volunteers and colleagues to meet participant, sponsorship recruitment and fundraising goals. In addition, they will oversee online fundraising communication and support for the entire chapter special events.
Candidate must be able to exercise excellent judgment, accept responsibility, and give careful attention to details. Must be skilled in multiple software programs and be willing to learn and excel in donor software systems.
This is a full time, benefits eligible position based in Austin, TX with frequent travel within the Chapter territory and reports to the Executive Director.
Event Leadership and Management (70%)
- Implements and executes a year round, chapter-wide strategic plan for Walk to End Alzheimer's.
- Proactively manages metrics reporting system, goal setting process, and donation records.
- Evaluates event success against projected goals and accomplishments, analyzes results and recommends course corrections as appropriate.
- Actively seeks opportunities to improve efficiency and quality of Walk Day experience.
- Works cooperatively and creatively with volunteers and staff to meet and exceed fundraising goals.
- Implements and executes plan to recruit, retain, and motivate participants (individual walkers and team captains) to increase walk revenue.
- Works in partnership with Executive Director and Chapter leaders to secure walk sponsorships.
- Serves as a liaison with National by communicating regularly and providing timely reports and attending Walk trainings.
- Collaborates with regional Program Coordinators to ensure full mission experience for volunteers, walkers, and sponsors on and leading up to Walk Day.
- Recruits, develops and manages volunteer leaders to plan and implement Walk; committee must include volunteers to manage logistic, team recruitment and engagement, sponsorship, and marketing aspects of the walk.
- Defines clear and timely goals, objectives, and expectations to strategic volunteers and provides support, technical expertise, and resources when needed.
- Maintains positive communication and professional relationship with volunteers.
- Assists in identifying and cultivating event volunteer leadership on an ongoing basis.
- Creates a work environment that supports teamwork, collaboration and cooperation between volunteers, participants, sponsors, and staff departments.
Communications and Marketing (30%)
- Supports public relations strategies and tactics, which include:
- Assisting in the creation and execution of communications campaigns
- Writing press releases and pitch media
- Maintaining updated media lists
- Interviewing and writing stories of people affected by Alzheimer's, volunteers and partners
- Plan and drafts communication calendar including all WTEA emails to walkers designed to increase online fundraising with all WTEA events.
- Coordinates, executes and tracks metrics of Chapter online communications strategy which includes: social media, email outreach, website, online calendars, and blog.
- Maintains, edits and updates Chapter website.
- 1-3 years' mass market fundraising experience strongly preferred; allied fundraising experience will be considered
- 1-3 years' writing and editing experience preferred; knowledge of AP style a plus
- Strong project management skills including the ability to prioritize, coordinate and advance several projects simultaneously
- Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills to engage diplomatically with a variety of personalities in a positive manner
- Ability to motivate, inspire and delegate work to Walk volunteers
- Ability to work independently with little daily supervision
- Ability to support and articulately promote the mission of the Alzheimer's Association and its event fundraising strategies
- Excellent computer skills including MS Office suite required. Familiarity with Convio and Gmail preferred
- Outstanding presentation and public speaking skills to represent the Association in a professional, inclusive and compelling manner
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends as needed during peak Walk season.
- Must possess a reliable personal vehicle, valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed to conduct Chapter business (mostly same day, intra-state travel)
- Must be able to lift, carry, transport, and setup a variety of materials related to Walk to End Alzheimer's (weighing up to 40 pounds)
