Under the direction of the Program Director II, the Program Director is responsible for the organization, development, delivery and quality of YMCA Programs. The YMCA Programs provide access to a wide range of services including learn to swim programs, nutrition and wellness and early education for communities in high need.  Two of the largest programs are the coordination and management of four Learning Centers located at affordable housing sites and oversight and execution of school-year programs, including the Y’s Project SAFE (Safety, Aquatics, Fitness Education) which has served over 10,000 Austin area 1st grade students in Title 1 schools by teaching them to swim. 

The Director position includes, but is not limited to, developing relationships with apartment managers, schools, principals, parents, program participants, part-time staff and partner agencies; ensuring proper delivery of program curriculum; monitoring, evaluating, and improving program delivery; advertising and promoting; hiring and training; establishing collaborative partnerships; and scheduling enrichment activities for youth, teens, and adults.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Responsible for the daily program operations, including staff & participant experience, training, hiring, evaluations, communication, and all related and required paperwork. 

The member relations aspect of this position requires that relationship building be a top priority at all times, attending to the needs and requests of members, program participants, volunteers, and all people associated with the YMCA in a courteous and friendly manner.

Specific Duties:

  • Recruit, identify, interview, and hire Learning Center and Project SAFE staff.
  • Ensure all new staff complete YMCA of Austin paperwork and required trainings.
  • Monitor and update all required staff certifications and scheduling of trainings.
  • Observe and evaluate programs and staff regularly.
  • Ensure Y values and TEKS standards are included in curriculum and daily activities.
  • Ensure completion of required program and participant paperwork.
  • Regularly communicate with Apartment Manager, schools, other Y branches/staff, and partner agencies (ie Colin’s Hope) and develop strong working relationships.
  • Exceed expectations of Apartment Manager, schools, other Y branches/staff, and partner agencies.
  • Create and Conduct recruitment events/flyers, monthly calendars, and other promotional materials to advertise Learning Center and Project SAFE programs.
  • Identify and cultivate community partnerships to enhance existing on-site programming.
  • Ensure timely collection of Project SAFE program metrics – outputs and outcomes.
  • Conduct outreach events, orientations and engagement opportunities for each program.
  • Schedule and ensure delivery of summer Swim Safe lessons.
  • Enhance existing child care programming with teen and adult initiatives.
  • Participate in Program Services and YMCA of Austin association special events.
  • Assist in special projects and activities as required by supervisor
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university strongly preferred.
Skills/Experience:

  • Education: Major course work in non-profit, recreation management, education, child development, public policy, public health, or other related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Two or more years of professional experience is preferred. Direct experience in child care and / or supervising staff is preferred. Previous YMCA experience strongly preferred.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual (Spanish and English) strongly preferred

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $37,000.00 - $41,000.00
