This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the guidance of the District Vice President, the Program Director administers the policies and programs of the Family YMCA of Aiken County including Wellness and Fitness programs as well as seasonal day camps. The Program Director serves an integral role in the successful running of all these programs. He/she shares responsibility for the over-all daily operation of camp including scheduling daily programs and staff, hiring and training staff, program accountability, working with campers and parents in planning their schedule, and all other programming to facilitate a successful program. He/she will have responsibility for adult wellness and fitness programs including the marketing and promotion of those programs. He/she designs and delivers program activities that are safe, fun and appropriate to the members’ age and abilities.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Interpret, communicate, and promote The Family Y mission, goals, and objectives to employees, volunteer, members, and the community at large.
  • Maintain a high profile among members for the purpose of being a role model of health and fitness.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the budget for all areas of responsibility.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of programs for the branch in support of community needs.
  • Maintains accurate records, statistics and reports for control and evaluation of all programs.
  • Coordinates and schedules use of branch facilities for program activities and events.
  • Assists in marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Purchases, maintains in good repair and inventory all program equipment and supplies.
  • Monitors and updates all required staff certification.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints on a timely basis.
  • Hire, train, schedule and supervise all staff reporting to this position.
  • Oversee and design ongoing, up to date wellness and educational programs for adult members of all ages and physical conditions.
  • Develop and implement operation procedures for all aspects of the wellness center.
  • Keep current, accurate records and rosters of all programs.
  • Keep reports and log books related to the maintenance of all exercise equipment.
  • Attends Branch Board meetings at the request of the District Vice President.
  • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with all staff, volunteers and members.
  • Accepts and demonstrates the Character Development Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
  • Actively participates and supports the annual scholarship campaign.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
A bachelor’s degree in physical education, exercise science, athletic training, or other related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Commitment to the YMCA Mission and its Core Values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience with The Family Y or other YMCA association or other comparable organization preferred.
  • One to three years supervisory experience at a wellness facility required.
  • Experience with volunteer, program and membership development.
  • High degree of human relation skills, ability to effectively communicate and manage information to peers, staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective management skills.
  • Able to relate and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $28,000.00 - $34,000.00
