Under the direction of the PR, Fund Development and Corporate Sales Director, the School-Aged Child Care Director is responsible for the development, planning and delivery of all school-aged childcare programs. In addition to program management, the incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations in the areas of staff supervision, administration, collaborative relationships and fiscal management. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the Auburn YMCA-WEIU is conveyed and incorporated into the daily programming.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages, directs and implements dynamic before and after school and summer programs for assigned locations. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities.
  • Promotes and advertises the school age programs, ensures community awareness of the available programs and recruits new participants.
  • Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Assures compliance with all state and local regulations that are required by the New York State Office of Children and Family Service and New York State Health Department, as they relate to assigned program areas.
  • Maintains a safe environment for children by maintaining staffing ratios, monitoring physical space for safety hazards and reporting child abuse to appropriate authorities in a timely manner.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands existing programs to support community needs, in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs offered; makes changes when needed to maintain effectiveness.
  • Develops and implements all Schools Out and Snow Day programs.
  • Serves on assigned committees; makes recommendations, answers questions and acts to make continuous improvements.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Ensures that staff follows internal policies and provides guidance for policy violations in a timely manner. Ensures that staff completes required safety training. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops and administers the annual departmental budget; Makes discretionary purchases within departmental budget.
  • Networks with appropriate professionals and keeps abreast of applicable trends via literature and professional journals to improve organizational safety.
  • Attends required meetings and events, completes required training and responds to inquiries in a timely manner. Meetings may be held at other branches and other locations.
  • Identifies and responds to child abuse according to YMCA Youth Protection Plan.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Associates degree in Early Childhood Development, Elementary or Physical Education, Recreation or related field or Child Development Credential (CDA) with equivalent experience and
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of two years direct experience working with children under the age of 13
  • Minimum one-year experience in management of childcare programs, supervision of staff and budget management.
  • Must pass NYS Statewide Central Register Database and NYS Justice Center standards.
  • Knowledge of Child Licensing requirements.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Must have computer literacy sufficient to create and send emails, take online training, create spreadsheets and work with word processing programs.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to attend offsite meetings and events.
  • Active CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
