The Family and Camp Director is responsible for creating events and programs that strengthen families, supervising the Child Watch program and seasonal Camp YOwasco operations.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Supervises the Child watch program to ensure appropriate staff/child ratios, safety of children and suitability of scheduled hours with the needs of parents.
- Plans, develops and coordinates family programming events that enhance healthy spirit, mind and body of participants; Works with the management team to plan youth programs, i.e.: Family Nights, School's Out Programs, recreation programs, after school programs and annual events.
- Supervises camp YOwasco by working onsite during the camping season. Ensures safe camp operations by adhering to health department regulations and maintaining appropriate staffing levels; Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Collaborates with local schools, youth and human service organizations in program service delivery that enhances youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
- Assists in the creation, development and distribution of marketing information related to assigned programs; Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Maintains appropriate documentation in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Establishes policies and programs essential to program operation.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Ensures that staff follows internal policies and provides guidance for policy violations in a timely manner. Ensures that staff completes required safety training. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Develops and administers the annual departmental budget; Recommends equipment and facility improvements. Makes discretionary purchases within departmental budget.
- Networks with appropriate professionals and keeps abreast of applicable trends via literature and professional journals to improve camp safety and overall camper experience.
- Attends required meetings, completes required training and responds to inquiries in a timely manner.
- All other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Studies, Psychology, Childhood Education or related field. Will consider significant experience in lieu of degree which meets NYS Health Department regulations.
Skills/Experience:
- Must have at least 24 weeks of experience in seasonal camp operations or administration or equivalent experience acceptable to the State Commissioner of Health
- Must clear a criminal background check sufficient to NYS Commissioner of Health.
- Must clear DCJS background check.
- Must be certified in CPR and maintain the certification throughout employment.
- Must secure and maintain Wilderness First Aid training.
- Must maintain a driver’s license free from substance related infractions.
