Managing Director, Alumni Leadership

The Managing Director of Alumni Leadership is charged with fueling a connected, inclusive, supported, and thriving alumni community, activating the leadership of our alumni, and ultimately ensuring that our alumni are maximizing their individual and collective impact on educational excellence and equity for all students in Metro Atlanta. 

In this role you will work in partnership with the Executive Director and other members of the regional leadership team to set ambitious goals aligned to our regional strategic direction and vision for alumni leadership and engagement.  You will also be responsible for aligning the alumni team strategies to our regional strategic priorities and goals and inspire and support a team of staff members to effectively execute against that plan.  You will lead the planning and execution of the strategy for development of opportunities for alumni to gather and connect with one another in service of our regional strategic goals.  Finally, you will individually contribute to the success of the plan by partnering with Leadership for Educational Equity and building individual relationships with a diverse group of alumni and community leaders across the greater Metro Atlanta area; especially those alumni who are more removed from their corps experience.

Areas of Responsibility: 

In this role, you will lead the Metro Atlanta alumni team and influence the regional team in engaging, connecting, inspiring, supporting, and celebrating Teach For America alumni working across industries but especially those individuals whose work or passions impact our most vulnerable communities. 

Vision and Strategy (30%)

  • Align vision and strategy for the alumni leadership and engagement team to the broader regional vision and goals
  • Ensure strong execution of that strategy both within the alumni leadership and engagement team and across the broader region
  • Lead the alumni leadership and engagement team to set and achieve ambitious in-year goals.

Alumni Engagement (30%)

  • Work in partnership with the regional leadership team to design and execute opportunities for alumni to gather and connect with one another in service of regional strategic priorities
  • Drive alumni and staff participation in alumni gatherings
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of alumni gatherings in service of progress to regional goals
  • Align with other regional leadership team members to engage alumni in other functional events (corps member support, development, district cultivation, etc.)

Portfolio Management and Team Management (20%)

  • Determine the division of ownership of various portfolios of specific subgroups of alumni
  • Manage team execution of engagement and interaction with alumni across their portfolio
  • Manage the alumni team to accurately collect, analyze, and report of alumni demographic and engagement data and use this information to make strategic decisions about the actions of the alumni team and regional team

Partnership with Leadership for Educational Equity (10%)

  • Facilitate connection and foster collaboration between Teach For America – Metro Atlanta and our regional Leadership for Educational Equity liaison
  • Leverage programming provided by LEE in service of development of key segments of our alumni base
  • Ensure connection between Teach For America Metro Atlanta’s and LEE’s strategic priorities and tactics to enhance success of both organizations towards their goals
  • Manage interactions with mutual community and constituent stakeholders shared by both organizations

Regional Responsibilities (10%)

  • Integrate and drive towards Regional Priorities in work alongside other regional staff members
  • Serve as a member of the regional leadership team to help inform regional strategy and decision making
  • Contribute and collaborate with peers as part of the regional leadership team
  • Support corps member selection, confirmation and matriculation efforts of the region as assigned
  • Support planning and execution of various regional events and projects
  • Support, attend, and/or participate in regional team activities, including regular staff meetings and retreats
  • Actively participate and seek out experiences that push your perspective along our DEI outcomes
  • Attend and actively engage in professional development conferences and learning groups
  • Responsibly steward regional resources through consistent compliance with all employee policies and expectations
Educational Background: 
Hold, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree. Competitive Master’s degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Have 7 years of work experience, at least three of which include managing teams.
  • Have experience working with senior officials, executives, administrators.
  • Teach For America alumni status is preferred.
  • Set vision and direction, then lead a team in developing strategies aligned to goals
  • Highly self-reflective, able to recognize personal areas of strength and leverage them while focusing on areas for growth and taking initiative to develop them in service of priorities and goals
  • Relationship building across lines of difference and with diverse groups of people and organizations
  • Work with peers to achieve organizational, not just functional, goals
  • Strong management and staff development skills, with a focus on leading teams to work collaboratively towards outcomes and maintaining and inclusive and high-performing culture

 Work Demands

  • Be able to work weekends and evenings, as necessary.
  • Be able to travel 2-4 times per year for conferences and professional development.
