The Manager, Talent and Operations (M, T&O) drives the execution of priority projects to ensure the attainment of regional priorities around talent, culture and office operations, including the building of a culture of excellence, equity, inclusiveness, urgency and core value alignment. This individual must possess outstanding poise and the ability to communicate effectively in ways that model Teach For America’s core values.  

The manager must be creative and enjoy working within a small, entrepreneurial environment that is mission-driven, results-driven and community oriented. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills, event planning, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. 

The manager will have the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion. This is an excellent role for someone who is excited to leverage strong project management, event planning, and budget management skills, and who wants to successfully use relationship-building skills to compel others to action.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Operations & Culture Management (45%)   
(40% of work exempt – bulk of work will be office transition & systems creation for new space)

  • Design and manage project plan for office space transition across regional and national teams
  • Create and implement office systems for new space that create efficiencies and create an environment where staff can effectively do their work
  • Gather feedback from staff and analyze to identify needs as well as check systems for functionality
  • Consistently evaluate effectiveness of operations and procedures in the region for constant improvement to meet the needs of the region, ensuring alignment and collaboration between staff
  • Create and utilize multiple feedback mechanisms (surveys, focus groups, one-on-one feedback) and communication with staff to ensure completion
  • Plan and coordinate all regional staff events (e.g. staff retreats, celebrations, team meetings)
  • Execute regional culture plans to facilitate a connected, inclusive, supported staff culture focused on progress towards our strategic goals, our Core Values, and our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness
  • Oversee, manage, and execute daily office functions including supply orders, building access, office facilities and equipment/furniture

Regional Administration (25%)
(12% of work exempt – creating and presenting trainings, evaluating staff gaps in knowledge, making budget decisions based on functional team needs and the changes during the year)

  • Ensure that the regional team is fully trained and aware of all financial policies and is complying with these policies on a regular basis
  • Lead the ongoing tracking and management of overall expenses for the region by working with functional team leads and adjusting budget to meet needs while staying under budget
  • Provide support and track Amex & Reimbursements for the Regional Leadership Team as necessary
  • Act as a liaison to building management, local vendors, and Teach For America’s national support teams, such as Human Assets, administration, and finance
  • Provide exceptional customer service to external partners, callers, and visitors

Talent (15%)

  • Execute talent management systems, including Elevate performance development process, monitoring staff professional development budget, and liaising with the national Talent Acquisition and Human Assets teams through hiring processes 
  • Manage and execute a strong onboarding experience for new staff members, including overseeing logistics and facilitating introductions to team, policies and procedures
  • Track the experience of new employees during the 30-60-90 day onboarding process by partnering and collaborating with all hiring managers
  • Compile quarterly reports assessing the progress towards onboarding goals to be supplied to hiring managers

Regional Responsibilities (15%)

  • Integrate and drive towards Regional Priorities in work alongside other regional staff members
  • Serve as regional Selection Manager, coordinating staff assignments for Selection commitments
  • Support corps member selection, confirmation and matriculation efforts of the region as assigned
  • Engage with regional alumni in work functions and regional events
  • Support planning and execution of various regional events and projects
  • Support, attend, and/or participate in regional team activities, including regular staff meetings and retreats
  • Actively participate and seek out experiences that push your perspective along our DEI outcomes
  • Attend and actively engage in professional development conferences and learning groups
  • Responsibly steward regional resources through consistent compliance with all employee policies and expectations
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-4 years experience required, with a preference for administrative and operations work
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with TFA stakeholders, including staff, board members, CMs/alumni, external partners and donors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Emotional maturity
  • Ability to execute administrative tasks quickly and efficiently, with an attention for follow through to completion
  • Strong customer service ethic, balancing outcomes with hiring managers’ needs
  • Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment

  • Preferred proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Pardot, WebEx, Adobe Acrobat, social media platforms, and online travel and expense management software

Work Demands

  • Occasional travel (2-3 times/year) required for attendance at conferences or professional development
  • Some evening and weekend work required for attendance at regional events
  • Valid driver’s license required
