Reporting directly to the Healthy Cities Director, the Community Engagement Coordinator supports all aspects of our work in the communities of the South River Basin with science-driven conservation action and grassroots community engagement.  This valuable river basin and the forests within it can provide greater health and recreation opportunities and spur equitable economic development in historically underserved South Atlanta communities, including the Carver Cluster and Thomasville Heights.  The Community Engagement Coordinator also provides administrative, research, project coordination and other general assistance to the Healthy Cities Program, and outreach staff working toward the achievement of conservation, stewardship and outreach goals. This is a two-year term position.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Community Engagement Coordinator will support the urban green jobs program and other facets of the Healthy Cities Program, with at least 50% of the time committed to work in the communities of the South River Basin.  These may include managing conservation data, participate in community outreach, develop conservation-based community projects, respond to community inquiries and maintain project records.  May include collecting, assembling and analyzing various types of data, in the field or through document surveys, producing maps using GIS software and assisting in the production of reports. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Supervises no staff but may oversee and direct work of volunteers or interns.
  • Coordinates multiple tasks or projects in a timely manner and with attention to detail.
  • May assist with program budget preparation and monitoring.
  • The Coordinator may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. 
  • Willingness to travel and work select evenings and/or weekends, as needed.
  • Makes day to day decision as delegated by the supervisor.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management or related field and 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must meet all TNC Youth Qualification requirements and background checks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite. 
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects.
  • Experience handling standard business communications.
  • Valid driver’s license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated
  • 2-4 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently within assigned time frames. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, with assignments sometimes coming from a number of sources and work independently.
  • Ability to coordinate project information from a number of sources to populate databases, create reports and produce manual files.
  • Experience utilizing databases for data entry and report production preferred.
  • Strong administrative skills including attention to detail and numerical ability. 
  • Ability to plan, administer and record results of work-team meetings and activities.
  • Experience in community relations and relationship building.
  • Experience working with communities and partners to accomplish a shared agenda.
