The G. Cecil Community Center YMCA is located in Canton, GA, just 40 miles north of downtown Atlanta.  This facility was built in 2006 and has approximately 65,000 square feet serving the surrounding population with programs supporting Healthy Lifestyles, Youth Development and Social Responsibility. This facility has both an indoor and outdoor aquatic center with a dive well, large outdoor slide, splash pad and lap swimming pools. The city of Canton has seen over a 2.5% growth in the past year and research shows this trend will continue into the coming years. 

The Cherokee Outdoor Y is located in Woodstock, GA, just 12 miles south of Canton. This location has an encompassing 250 acres that is on Lake Allatoona and serves the community with Summer Camp, Retreats, Sports, Nature Excursions, Horseback and Swimming. This facility has a seasonal outdoor pool with slide and dive well right along the lake. This location is in partnership with the Corp of Engineers.

Combined, the two locations have an operational budget of $3.4M and approximately 3k membership units. 

Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Director - Sports will plan, administer and evaluate the Sports department and supervise staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, supervise, and evaluate the Sports department employees and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement a plan to attract and recruit new members and corporate partnerships.
  • Conduct pilots for new programs; develop plans and manage best practices through engagement of the staff team.
  • Effectively manage budgets; hold staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.
  • Foster a climate of innovation.
  • Monitor progress towards branch’s goals by running and reviewing all necessary reports.
  • Coordinates marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to the Associate Executive Director on related issues.
  • Collaborate with the Association key departments to lead, coordinate and support implementation of key initiatives related to marketing, social media and communications, human resources and financial development.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree required in business, exercise health science or related field required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two (2) or more years related experience and training and development of high performing teams.
  • Must have a background in staff team development and relationship management.
  • Seeks, cultivates and supervises volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Hands on experience with utilizing data to make an informed decisions.
  • Personal commitment to service and hospitality.
  • If internal to the YMCA, must have a minimum Team Leader Certification.
