Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Director of Aquatics is responsible for the oversight and delivery of the aquatic programs including: swim lessons, private lessons, lifeguard certification classes, and aquatic training events. The Director of Aquatics will have direct supervision responsibilities of lifeguards, lifeguard trainers, full-time aquatic lead role and full-time Aquatic Program Manager. The Director of Aquatics will show a commitment to Y Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Create and implement aquatics programs through product knowledge and interactions with existing and potential members.
- Collaborate with department leads to maximize enrollments in program registration.
- Analyze data, systems and processes to recognize growth and retention opportunities within the aquatics department.
- Ensure proper implementation of pool schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections.
- Collaborate and work effectively with all departments to achieve desired results.
- Identify and employ best practices in systems and technology to support effective management of the Aquatics department. Utilize available technology, reporting tools and data that enhance aquatics participation and member retention.
- Recruit, select, develop and retain appropriate team members for the department. Supervise department staff. Support training and career succession plan for staff team.
- Collaborate with other leadership staff to drive staff recruitment, development and retention.
- Provide leadership through established performance goals and standards, regular assessment of staff performance including annual performance evaluations, and staff meetings.
- Plan and manage the Aquatics budget.
- Schedules and supervises lifeguards.
- Supervise the Aquatic Program Manager.
- Ensure the highest quality of aquatic programs and highest member satisfaction possible.
- Acts as liaison between management team and aquatic staff for communication purposes.
- Have an active role in Annual Campaign, engaging members and department staff in this effort.
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/Experience:
- Director of Aquatics must be 21 years of age or older, preferably with previous supervision and aquatic experience.
- Director of Aquatics must hold and maintain current certifications in the following:
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Community First Aid
- Emergency Oxygen Administration (O2)
- Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
- YMCA/Red Cross Lifeguarding
- YMCA Facilitation Skills training (preferred)
- Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (preferred)
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, & Oxygen Administration Instructor (preferred)
- YMCA V6 Swim Lessons Instructor
- Certified Pool Operator Certification
- *All required certifications must be obtained within 90 days of employment
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $35,308.00 - $40,000.00
