The Photo Editor assigns, tracks, and edits projects creating visual content to illuminate the Nature Conservancy story and create engagement with the brand.
The Photo Editor is a visual storytelling specialist who uses photography to create impact, engagement and curiosity in print and digital media. S/he works with marketing team members to determine the best photography solutions that support project exposure and the TNC brand. Projects might include Nature Conservancy magazine stories, website story and project presentations, special reports, annual reports, and collaboration with the video team. The Photo Editor is creative and collaborative, comfortable with working on teams or independently.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- As directed by the Director or Deputy, independently develop Creative Team photography projects for print or digital media, determining story scope, assigning photographers, tracking budgets, managing schedules, and delivering edited visual narratives;
- Assists Director on annual report or other projects as needed;
- Conduct search for stock imagery as needed, negotiate and execute pricing, rights, and contracts;
- Create and maintain relationships with regional offices, looking for content that can be shared from the WO platforms, and helping other teams create more thoughtful and effective photography;
- Input Vault entries from completed assignments and partner marketing teams: ingest tagged and captioned content;
- Edit submissions to the Conservancy’s online photo archive from regional marketing offices, project leads or science groups; discuss edit and tagging with regional contacts;
- Independently prepare and post Instagram images and videos from assignments or archive material; assist in gathering images, participate in reviews, write captions that messages TNC brand.
- Take lead role in online annual photo contest.
- Responsible and accountable for meeting assigned project goals and objectives.
- May serve as team lead on assigned communication and/or media initiatives.
- Does not supervise staff but will coordinate the work of peers.
- Resolves issues independently within program area.
- Works independently without requiring detailed management review of general work.
- Experience photo editing in one or more of the following: newspapers, magazines, annual reports, web-site articles/stories, online presentations or content marketing groups.
- Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
- Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
- Social media experience a plus—particularly Instagram campaigns.
- Experience implementing and measuring communication and engagement plans/strategies.
- Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
- Experience working with stock agencies, freelance photographers, photographer reps and online photo resources.
- Mac proficiency, with strong skills in Adobe software (Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat) and all Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of current and evolving trends in photography.
- Experience with Digital Asset Management software a plus.
