The Social Content & Audience Engagement Manager serves on the Global Communications team, which focuses on elevating the reputation and influence of The Nature Conservancy with top-tier audiences that have the power to change the future for people and nature. This role requires exceptionally strong social media skills and the ability to design audience-first content and strategies that will drive engagement on TNC’s global conservation agenda amongst influential priority audiences.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Social Content & Audience Engagement Manager will work across the Global Communications team to devise tailored audience engagement strategies and create and publish engaging social content on core TNC platforms—including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram—to drive strategic communications goals. This position is responsible for designing, producing, project managing and measuring effectiveness of social media content across TNC’s global conservation priorities. The role will also proactively identify opportunities to elevate TNC’s thought leadership and real-world solutions by leveraging social conversations, trending topics in the news cycle, external events, and other moments to deepen and grow engagement with key target audiences (e.g., business and policy leaders, global influencers and opinion leaders, high level funders, and stakeholder organizations).

This is a full-time position reporting into the Associate Director, Stakeholder Communications and coordinating extensively with other Global Communications colleagues across multiple time zones, as well as other staff across TNC’s Global Marketing division. Preferred location is TNC’s Worldwide Office in Arlington, Virginia (negotiable).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Conceive, design, implement and direct social media plans, written and visual content (e.g., copy, GIFs, cards, photos, videos) and audience engagement efforts—from quick-turnaround projects to larger ongoing campaigns—setting goals and deadlines and ensuring accountability.
  • Advise Global Communications colleagues on social content strategies at campaign/project proposal and launch stages, and project manage key workstreams of those plans.
  • Provide tracking, reporting and analysis of social performance data and share learnings/insights to help shape and inform future content and audience engagement strategies.
  • Leverage enterprise social content management system, social paid advertising platforms and select vendor tools for content publishing, community management, and performance analysis.
  • Write clearly and succinctly about complex subjects and apply strong editing skills to modify content for optimal social media engagement with target audiences while maintaining consistent brand voice and guidelines.
  • Advise on and support social media visibility of select TNC leaders and executives.
  • Demonstrate a strategic communications savviness and ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of social media principles, best practices and emerging trends.
  • Develop social media packages for external organizations and partners to help amplify content and messaging outside of TNC-owned channels, and support with monitoring and tracking of those placements.
  • Financial responsibility may include working within a budget to complete projects; negotiating and contracting with vendors; and assisting with annual budget development.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum 5 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.
  • Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects.
  • Experience writing, editing and proofreading

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated social media expertise—creating and implementing social strategy, written and visual content (copy, GIFs, cards, photos, videos) and organic and paid social campaigns.
  • Experience developing audience cultivation/growth strategies and digital influencer strategies or campaigns to drive online engagement with target audiences.
  • Experience working within an enterprise social media content management system and paid social platforms.
  • Experience in social media KPI reporting and analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent verbal/written communication, proofreading skills and project management experience.
  • Ability to work independently within broad communications project goals without requiring detailed management review of work.
  • Strong time management skills, ability to design, implement and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, and operate on tight deadlines.
  • Ability to experiment and think outside the box and cultivate the creative ideas of others to find innovative solutions. Enjoys the challenge of unfamiliar opportunities.
  • Collaborative by nature, with experience working across dispersed teams, flexible interpersonal style, and strong comfort with absorbing and applying constructive feedback from colleagues.
  • Ability to think strategically—creating breakthrough plans and programs and making decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in best practices and emerging trends in digital and social media, content marketing and strategic communications.
  • Experience managing client/customer relationships as well as vendors.
  • Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Personal passion for preserving and protecting the natural world with a belief in the mission, principles and values of TNC’s global approach to conservation
