Responsible for management of a compliance area and a variety of moderately complex projects and tasks involving functional compliance across the enterprise. Primarily responsible for managing compliance with global privacy laws and regulations and contractual requirements, including managing our global privacy program. Other responsibilities include supporting the objectives of the Ethics & Compliance Office; investigating privacy and data incidents and policy violations.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Global Privacy Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and executing the Conservancy’s Global Privacy program to promote compliance with applicable privacy and data protection laws. They will direct day-to-day operations of the global privacy program, including program objectives, policies, procedures, training and communication. They will implement a privacy governance framework to manage personal data use in compliance with applicable data privacy regulations and policies. They will provide leadership to cross-functional teams in order develop and implement global privacy program initiatives aligned with program objectives. They will assist in the development and execution of short-term tactical solutions while helping to develop and execute long-term strategies and plans aligned with our global privacy program objectives. They will drive the development and delivery of trainings and communications for the privacy program. They will serve as an organizational resource for information and guidance on privacy and the protection of personal data. They will leverage constructive and effective relationships with a wide range of staff, including senior management.  The Global Privacy Manager reports to the Chief Ethics, Compliance & Privacy Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Provide strategic leadership for the global privacy program and ensure that various initiatives related to global privacy follow project plans, are completed on-time and on-budget.
  • Direct day-to-day operations of global privacy program, including program objectives, policies, procedures, training and communication.
  • Implement and support a privacy governance framework to manage personal data use in compliance with applicable data privacy regulations and policies.
  • Develop/Maintain partnerships with internal key stakeholders, such as membership, development, human resources, legal, security, audit, to influence and align business-area actions that are needed to achieve global privacy program objectives and drive accountability for privacy in each key area.
  • Create guidance and checklists and templates to enable organization functions to maintaining accurate records of personal data and that demonstrate compliance with applicable regulations and policies, including privacy impact assessments.
  • Direct actions to ensure external stakeholders, such as partners and suppliers, have policies and practices that are aligned with privacy laws, regulations, and our program.
  • Prepare materials and conduct training to support data privacy program initiatives.
  • Manage incident response team to investigate and respond to privacy incidents in a comprehensive and timely manner that complies fully with applicable federal and state laws and manages the impact to the organization's brand.
  • Lead new programs/initiatives that will ensure program and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
  • Participate in company-wide risk assessment process to identify potential privacy risks and control solutions. Monitor actions to identify emerging risks and to close gaps.
  • Travel approximately 15%, be willing to work long hours and weekends as needed.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of experience in compliance, legal, audit or related areas, including 2 years in privacy;
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in principles, practices, and procedures of international privacy laws, regulations, compliance and best practices.
  • Experience developing and managing multiple cross-functional projects; and
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams across multiple organizational levels.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM);
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience.
  • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects and resources with a sense of urgency and to navigate within a complex organization.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making ability, with the utmost integrity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Experience in MS Office, Word, and Excel and ability to manipulate, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, or Bahasa desired but not required.
