The Global Communications team operates at the heart of The Nature Conservancy’s mission—supporting and leveraging global conservation work by providing focused communications strategies, and engaging content that targets select audiences with the power to change the future for people and nature. The Global Media Relations Team, as part of the Global Communications team, leads media relations and outreach in top-tier media outlets for The Nature Conservancy’s global conservation priorities and solutions.

The Global Media Relations Intern will work 15 hours per week from mid-January through early May at The Nature Conservancy’s global headquarters office in Arlington, VA.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Global Media Relations Intern works closely with Global Media Relations team staff on drafting press releases, performing research and measuring results. S/he participates in story and pitch development in support of The Nature Conservancy’s top conservation priorities. S/he participates in Global Media Relations and Global Communications team meetings and provides administrative support as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Researches in support of media stories and pitches highlighting TNC’s top conservation projects and solutions
  • Drafts press releases and other written materials
  • Coordinates ongoing work and basic projects.
  • Interprets guidelines and analyzes factual information/data.
  • Duties are performed under direct supervision and established guidelines. 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and 1-year related experience or equivalent combination.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience with relevant technology such as Microsoft Suite needed for communications, constructing reports and managing calendars.
  • Experience providing administrative or project support.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interest in science and environment issues.
  • Course work in communications, marketing or public relations.
  • Familiarity with Associated Press writing style.
  • Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
  • Strong skills in writing, editing and proofreading written materials. 
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to coordinate efforts and organize in order to complete assigned tasks/projects.
