The Finance Manager provides highly specialized finance/accounting-related services to a department or business unit.
The Finance Manager is responsible for the management, maintenance and reporting of all financial data related to the World Office Finance Business Unit of the Nature Conservancy. S/He works closely with the management team and program managers to develop, monitor and maintain all financial information for the Business Unit, including the annual operating budget. S/He provides oversight of accounts payable, funds received and receivable, and staff expense reimbursements. Finance Manger provides oversight and tracking of private service contracts. Duties may encompass a wide range of detailed accounting/financial transactions including general and subsidiary ledger entries, financial report preparation and reconciliation, budget preparation and monitoring, accounts payable, the preparation/processing of various accounting forms and reports such as journal entries. This person must be able to function productively as a member or leader of a work team and be able to work with and communicate with a wide range of staff. This position requires the ability to travel a few times each year and the ability to work longer hours during busy seasons. This position reports to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Works toward meeting the strategic priorities of the program by developing and coordinating tactics for approved plans and completing day-to-day tasks.
- Coordinates projects.
- Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field.
- May participate in complex negotiations.
- 4 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience with account entries, collecting and analyzing account information
- Experience recommending financial actions by analyzing options
- Can prepare financial statements and financial status information
- Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Experience with Accounting Standards (FASB).
- Familiarity with government regulations related to grants and contracts.
- Experience with relational databases.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
- Non-profit accounting experience preferred.
- Experience in manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of current trends in specific field.
- May require fluency in a foreign language to support global operations.
- MBA, CPA and/or CIA may be preferred.
