The Director, Membership Operations provides direction and leadership over a multidisciplinary membership team and/or program.  Sets and implements overall operational program/project strategies that align to overall membership goals and objectives.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Director, Membership Operations is responsible for setting overall objectives and for the management of membership operations staff and teams that create, manage and implement key initiatives designed to support the Membership fundraising goals.  Works with marketing leaders and other department managers to direct, coordinate, oversee implementation, and ensure delivery of operations solutions consistent with the vision and goals of TNC enterprise, and through alignment with staff efforts that match priorities set by senior management.  Leads Membership’s requirements for technology solutions that efficiently and effectively support direct response fundraising initiatives. Manage priority vendor relationships.  Manage operational budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Broad management and leadership responsibility for administrative, professional and volunteer staff and department, including training and professional development.  Establishes clear directions and sets “stretch” objectives.
  • Broad financial responsibility includes setting and meeting budget objectives, evaluating results and developing corrective strategies as needed.
  • Develops and administers department budget.
  • Makes strategic decisions based on analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment.
  • Maximum opportunity to act independently within broad program goals.  Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by directives of superiors.
  • Decisions may have program-wide impact and may bind the organization financially or legally. 
  • Ability to commit the organization’s actions and resources in a way that affects public image.
  • Maintains confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally charged information.
  • Responsible that department complies with TNC policies and procedures and external (legal) requirements.
  • Designs and directs complex and diversified projects, coordinating the work of other professionals, and ensuring program accountability. 
  • Manages multi-disciplinary administrative and professional staff.
  • Develops and manages budget, evaluates results and develops corrective strategies as needed.
  • Decision can commit resources for programs or initiatives in a way that has organization wide impact and affects public image.
  • Lead strategic initiatives through collaboration with senior-level stakeholders in order to enhance overall performance in accordance with short and long-term objectives.
  • Plans and leads new programs/initiatives that ensure achievement of department and organization-wide goals.
  • Responsibility and accountability for meeting strategic goals and objectives.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field and minimum 10 years related work experience or an equivalent combination.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience leading and managing a large multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience cultivating and managing client and vendor relationships.
  • Experience in marketing direct response program management, including broad financial responsibility and measuring results of strategic plans and programs.
  • Experience in implementation of marketing technologies and change management associate with new tools and ways of working.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in marketing or business administration preferred. 
  • Experience with direct response database and marketing technologies management, reporting, operations and project management
  • Experience building business models and forecasts
  • Experience mentoring and managing business analysts, customer care, project management professionals and general operations staff
  • Extensive management experience including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives and manage performance of a large multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Ability to foster an environment of creativity and professional growth.
  • Marketing Communications experience developing, implementing, measuring and evaluating multifaceted strategic marketing initiatives, plans and programs.
  • Proven success in building and maintaining long-term relationships.
  • Proven ability in managing the fiduciary aspects of planning and delivery of annual budgets.
  • Demonstrated success in managing a diverse and creative team of professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to positively influence and persuade.
  • Excellent communications, mediation and negotiation skills.
