The Associate Director of Retention develops and implements strategic fundraising initiatives to our current active member base to increase retention, maximize revenue over the long term and to support and increase the pipeline for middle and gift planning donors. S/he manages one or more staff that create, manage, and implement these initiatives designed to advance marketing strategies that build awareness and engagement, influence conservation action, and achieve revenue goals. S/he works closely with marketing leaders including senior management and internal teams to ensure delivery of programs. Aligns staff efforts to match priorities set by senior management. Manages the budget and operational delivery of program or initiative goals and strategies.
Responsible for working closely with a variety of internal departments/stakeholders and outside vendors on development and production of campaigns, ensuring minimization of expenses, maximization of revenue, implementation of quality control standards, and alignment to strategy. Works within the framework of positioning, platform and voice of the organization’s marketing objectives in the creation and management of campaigns and implements operational delivery of branding principles whether applied internally or outbound.
This position works closely with various constituents including senior staff, field offices, department and division staff, vendors, and other key stakeholders to ensure delivery of projects that contribute to a positive service relationship. Responsible for communicating campaign plans and results to key stakeholders.
Tracks campaign results, and data analysis for monthly and annual active giving programs. Works with the Director of Retention on strategic planning and recommendations which respond to program performance, market conditions, organizational priorities and donors’ interests. Coordinates and manages to budgets for the campaigns/program. Oversees staff and the day-to-day deliverables of the programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Designs, directs and manages multiple complex and diverse programs or projects coordinating the work of other professionals, managing budget and ensuring program accountability.
- Broad management responsibility for administrative and professional staff that are responsible for key initiatives or programs.
- Accountable for meeting strategic goals and objectives.
- Financial responsibility includes developing and managing project and team budget objectives, evaluating results and developing corrective strategies as needed. Provides input to departmental budget process.
- Opportunity to act independently within broad program goals. Work checked through consultation and agreement with stakeholders rather by directives of superiors.
- Decisions can commit the organization’s resources in a way that affects public image and have program-wide impact.
- A minimum of 9 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience managing staff and teams.
- Experience developing direct response marketing plans and measuring results.
- Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.
- Experience leading complex project and program/account management including financial responsibilities, and measuring results of strategic plans and programs.

- Detailed knowledge of current and evolving non-profit fundraising procedures and terms.
- Ability to maintain projects and programs in compliance with policies and procedures and external (legal) requirements
- Demonstrated ability in negotiating with external resources
- Experience developing, directing and managing multiple projects.
- Cross disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.
