The Associate Director of Finance oversees and manages the activities and personnel responsible for the finance and accounting function for the global strategies business unit. Preference will be given to Global Strategies applicants.

The Associate Director of Finance is a subject matter expert that serves as a resource to Global Strategies Business Units by managing a centralized team of Finance Managers and providing high-level financial analysis and advice to senior management. They are responsible for the management, maintenance and reporting of financial data and/or the monitoring of management controls and processes to ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures, relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, and financial management best practices.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work closely with Worldwide Office Finance and other departments and organizational units as necessary.
  • Ensure that programmatic commitments, Conservancy policies and procedures, and financial standards are met and managed for ethical compliance;
  • Develop and monitor multi-year budgeting, forecasting, sustainability and strategic financial planning process.
  • Supervise and oversee the day to day work of professional and/or administrative finance staff to achieve the team’s strategic goals.
  • Recommends and plans financial training for staff and managers.  
  • Implements and manages finance processes for business unit level initiatives.
  • Manage timely and accurate strategic level financial reporting to global leadership.
  • Review and monitor income statement and balance sheet (including pledges) items at month and year-end close.
  • Provide financial expertise on special projects.
  • Participates in proposal development, review and negotiations.
  • Manages fiscal year-end activities.
  • Ensure revenue, expenses and net assets are managed to reflect donor intent, including working with cross-functional teams to perform revenue allocation.
  • Oversee general accounting duties, to include: basic journal entries for transfers, loans, land transactions, accruals, deferred revenue and expense corrections.
  • Oversee private funded awards.
  • Oversee day-to-day financial activities such as purchasing, processing invoices, negotiating, and contracting with vendors;
  • Partner with global staff on decisions that may have program-wide impact and may bind the organization financially.
  • Act independently and resolve complex financial issues within program area.
  • May require travel, working long hours and weekends.  
  • Manage activities related to international legal and/or financial compliance.
  • Liaise and coordinate with WO treasury on funds transfers in accordance with the Financial Management Handbook and WO Treasury requirements.
  • Manage, report and monitor foreign exchange impacts.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 7 years related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience working with computer and information management systems, Excel spreadsheets and databases for financial analysis, fiscal management, and/or financial reports.
  • Experience recruiting, supervising and developing staff.
  • Experience in developing, directing and implementing multiple projects.
  • Experience developing budgets
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting data and recommending corrective action or solutions as appropriate.
  • Experience acting as a consultant/advisor to senior leaders.  
  • Experience with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting principles, practices and regulations, including government grants accounting and reporting.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Non-profit accounting experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience managing a geographically dispersed team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Master’s degree or CPA.
  • Demonstrated success in motivating and leading staff.
  • Technical expert on complex accounting/financial issues.
  • Service oriented, tactful and experienced in dealing effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Fluency in a foreign language to support global operations.
