The AmeriCorps National Program Manager will be responsible for the institutional coordination and management of the National Direct AmeriCorps grant. The AmeriCorps National Program Manager will work closely with 13 site supervisors and 22 AmeriCorps members across North America and ensure compliance with AmeriCorps policies and procedures. This position is a one-year, full-time position with the possibility of extension up to three years, and will report to the Director of Volunteer Programs & Community Outreach.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The AmeriCorps National Program Manager provides management and program oversight for the AmeriCorps National Direct grant which will place 22 AmeriCorps volunteers through TNC business units and preserves. The Program Manager will work closely with various constituents such as department staff, field offices, partners, program consultants, and vendors to manage all phases of the AmeriCorps National Direct grant.  In consultation with the Conservancy’s Grants Team, s/he serves as the primary contact to Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). The AmeriCorps National Program Manager works closely with the Conservancy’s Grants team to manage the financial and technical aspects of the National Director AmeriCorps Grant to ensure there are lasting outcomes and results.  A focus will be collaboration with key program partners and the development and communication of best practices, tools, training and frameworks in volunteerism that help increase program impact

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Overall technical leadership and supervisory management of CNCS funded AmeriCorps program;
  • Serve as the primary project liaison with CNCS and communicate regularly with CNCS and CNCS funded activities, as well as attend all CNCS partner meetings;
  • Maintain rigorous oversight for all AmeriCorps National Program compliance requirements;
  • Oversee the development of mechanisms for effective program coordination, planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation;
  • Provide technical assistance to AmeriCorps members and site supervisors across North America by conducting periodic evaluations and site visits; meet with site supervisors and review records systems for adequacy to support member, program and financial data;
  • Assist in developing training plans to enhance AmeriCorps member service and increase professional development and leadership skills for the AmeriCorps volunteers working under this grant.
  • Monitor changes in federal regulations related to AmeriCorps and proactively develop organization preparation and response;
  • Support recruitment process for new staff members;
  • Support audits and track the resolution of action items detailed in audit response work plans;
  • Supervise one AmeriCorps member based at the worldwide office;
  • Compile, edit, and write qualitative and quantitative progress reports and annual renewal application CNCS;
  • Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment and manage deadlines.  Act independently on assigned tasks and projects and may have full opportunity to direct individual projects; duties are performed under general supervision and established guidelines;
  • Travel and work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed; and
  • Work performed in a general office setting and outdoor settings with some exposure to disagreeable elements; work requires only minor physical exertion and/or physical strain.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in conservation and/or related field and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination;
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 2 years’ experience managing complex grants;
  • Experience in partnership development (partners, community, government, etc.);
  • Education, training, and/or experience with politics and negotiation;
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and demonstration to work effectively with and through others in a decentralized and geographically dispersed organization;
  • Written and verbal communications experience including preparing and presenting project proposals and working in partnership with other organizations in a collaborative and advisory capacity;
  • Experience working in a team-based environment with internal and external partners;
  • Experience with time management, organization, and attention to detail;
  • Project management skills; 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual and/or multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
  • Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives or related field.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Basic experience in fundraising.
  • Experience with AmeriCorps or national service programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive and write creatively for various audiences, from technical information;
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience
