The Senior Accountant provides specialized accounting-related services to business units as part of the Worldwide Office Accounting department.
The Senior Accountant provides specialized services in reviewing and processing journal entries, financial reporting; accounting; or similar financial activities for a department or business unit. S/he has a high level of expertise in his/her area(s) of specialization. S/he administers and maintains finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management. The Finance/Accounting Specialist II provides assistance to staff in his/her specialty area. S/he responds to moderately complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Reviews and posts journal entries; interprets results of transactions and communicates necessary actions needed to comply with accounting standards and business procedures.
- Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field.
- Under limited supervision acts independently, resolves complex issues, and may act as a resource to others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis.
- Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems, such as Agresso Business World (ABW)
- Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports, and financial management tools.
- Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Ability to manipulate, analyze, and interpret data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task/prioritize tasks appropriately to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently to identify resources and resolve issues encountered.
- Non-profit accounting experience.
- May require technical expertise on complex accounting/financial issues.
- Able to effectively communicate using a variety of media (e.g. email, Skype for Business, phone) to overcome barriers such as remote work locations, differences in language and time zones, and technology limitations.
- Flexibility to changing situations and priorities.
