The Finance Specialist-Global Lands provides finance, accounting and operations-related services.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Finance Specialist provides excellent support in accounting, financial, and operations activities. They administer and maintain finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management, and are responsible for expeditiously and courteously responding to, routing, or resolving inquiries and requests from internal and/or external customers. They prepare timely and accurate reports and forecasts, and monitor and prepare budgets. They will be responsible for effectively supporting contract/invoice payments, ensuring TNC standard operating procedures are understood and followed, and maintaining and retaining records in accordance with TNC policy and division best practices. This position is based in Arlington, VA and reports to the Finance Lead-Global Lands.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Supports in preparing/processing various transactional accounting forms and reports, such as journal entries, cash receipt recordings, and adjustments, also including payment of invoices, electronic file transfer, and customer service.
  • Prepares donor and management financial reports and materials including budget/spend analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Works to ensure accurate processing of income, expenses, and transfers, as well as to pull monthly financial reports from the general ledger and other ad hoc reports financial reporting.
  • Maintains excellent knowledge of TNC corporate policies and procedures, and work to identify needed improvements to established policies in keeping with the underlying principles.  
  • Streamline and systematize contracts and revenue processing work flows. 
  • Maintains a central repository of all legal documents including contracts, grants, donations, etc.
  • Ensures TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are understood and met.
  • Supports contract drafting and management processes. 
  • Creates and maintains reference materials, training materials and provides guidance to staff regarding contracts/grants/donations work-flow process. 
  • Supports Division’s day-to-day tasks
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
Skills/Experience: 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.
  • Experience using automated accounting systems.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data
  • Excellent excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail, high level of accuracy in work products.
