The IT Application Development Director has overall responsibility to lead, manage and develop a cross-functional team of technologists who develop applications serving corporate processes as well as Business Units. The team undertake Rapid Prototyping as need be and ensures scalable platforms are implemented. This group also includes the group of technologists running our Intranet platform (aka Connect) developed on SharePoint and will also integrate the technologists configuring and maintaining the new Web CMS platform TNC just acquired with Adobe.
The pool of developers staffs projects when needed so collegial collaboration with PMO and business facing colleagues is paramount. Complicity with the BI group and architecture group is pivotal to the success of this strategic group. The director needs to leverage lessons learned and best practices to build trust with people in the business and provide influential leadership to onboard BU IT developers and set the global virtual network of developers.
The IT Application Development Director reports to the Chief Information officer. In addition to regular staff, s/he may also supervise volunteers and manage relationships with staff in cross-organizational and cross-functional teams. S/he functions as a member of the TIS Management Council where all project priorities are determined and organized.
- Broad management and leadership responsibility for the Application Development team, including recruitment, retention, professional development, establishing clear directions, and setting objectives.
- Designs and directs complex and diversified projects/systems/services, coordinating the work of other professionals, managing budgets, and ensuring program accountability.
- Strong presentation skills and compelling ability to synthesize complex matters is imperative.
- Develops and administers budget, evaluates results and develops corrective strategies as needed.
- Critical thinker with demonstrated problem-solving skills; ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
- Directs and participates in negotiations for complex, high profile or sensitive agreements.
- Ensures that programmatic commitment, TNC policies and procedures, and IT security and financial standards are met and managed.
- Leads strategic initiatives through collaboration with senior-level stakeholders in order to enhance overall performance in accordance with short and long-term objectives.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Makes strategic decisions that may have program-wide impact and may bind the organization financially or legally.
- Plans and leads new projects/system/service/initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals are achieved.
- Responsible and accountable for meeting strategic goals and objectives.
- May be required to travel 15% or more to US and non-US locations, and work long hours during peak workload periods.
- Work environment may involve infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and may require physical exertion and/or strain.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 7 years’ experience in an IT environment.
- 5 years of experience managing and supervising a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in software development and maintenance best practices.
- Experience with customer management, vendor management and service level agreements to maintain and enhance data security.
- Fluency in English and in the dominant language of the assigned Region.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- Advanced degree or Project Management certification highly preferred.
- Expert knowledge of current and evolving IT trends in relevant discipline.
- Certification in IT Administration/ and/or Engineering.
- Critical thinker with demonstrated problem-solving skills; ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data
- Strong dedication to the development of customer-centric standards and solutions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with ESRI / GIS
- Experience designing portals (client facing)
- Understanding of blockchain technology a strong plus
- Strong ability to understand and analyze business processes and the use of technology by different facets of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple highly complex large scaled projects/systems/services in a large, decentralized organization.
- Experience managing all aspects of contracting with consultants and vendors.
- Experience in planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities.
- Proficiency in synthesizing materials from multiple sources into a coherent and accurate summary.
- Proficiency in working independently as well as jointly with colleagues on a team.
- Experience, coursework, or other training in principles, practices and procedures of relevant field.
- Understanding of best practices in non-profit management.
