Under the direction of the Director of Sports and Aquatics, the Sports Coordinator will be responsible for providing assistance and leadership to the sports program for the Cooper Street YMCA. Successful employee will model the behavioral values established by the Association and will have a passion and enthusiasm for the mission of the Y.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Oversee safety and maintenance of sports equipment, fields, and gyms. Work to maintain control of program supplies
- Organize and maintain cleanliness of all sports storage areas and sports sites
- Prepare fields and gyms for practices and games
- Perform administrative duties
- Substitute as a sports official as needed
- Assist with the supervision of family center facility, sites, gyms, fields, and special events.
- Work as liaison to all officials, monitoring their activities and performance, ensuring safety and quality
- Assist with parents and coaches trainings
- Work alongside Director of Sports and Aquatics in processing volunteer applications
- Assist the Director of Sports and Aquatics in marketing and recruitment efforts
- Work with Director of Sports and Aquatics in creating sports rosters and schedules, including staff schedules
- Work with Director of Sports and Aquatics in securing gyms and fields for practices and games
- Assist in maintaining discipline among all participants to ensure the comfort and safety of others
- Report all incidents to a supervisor immediately
- Maintain a safe and encouraging environment, addressing problems as needed
- Communicate effectively and politely with others, portraying excellent listening and interpersonal skills
- Responsible for minor decisions regarding routine problems where precedents have been established
- Apply and comply with all YMCA policies and procedures and exemplify the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith
- Adhere to all risk management and safety practices of the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA
Educational Background:
Must be at least 18 years of age; high school diploma or GED required
Skills/Experience:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, speaking politely, clearly, and articulating accurate information
- Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills
- Able to assist in resolving participants’ concerns promptly
- Basic computer skills needed
- Ensure quality member/participant experience
- Must have reliable transportation
- Ability to work weekends evenings is a must
- Must be able to work effectively with a diversity of people, different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and all ages. Interacts regularly with members, volunteers, staff and other community leaders.
- Must have and maintain current CPR Pro/AED, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, Child Abuse Prevention, Blood borne Pathogens training, hazard communication, slips, trips, and falls training, new hire orientation and any other trainings required
Compensation/Benefits:
Hourly: $14.00 - $16.00
