Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Healthy Lifestyles Coordinator directs health and wellness promotion, retention, and program activities.  Staff member oversees the operations of the health/fitness department and programs, including staff supervision and program planning.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  •  Develops, implements, and manages health and wellness programs, complying with all Association standards and safety procedures.
  • Recruits, hires, and trains all health and wellness program staff and volunteers; Supervises and evaluates staff regularly to ensure program quality and consistency. Runs payroll for staff.
  • Creates and schedules all wellness programming. Perform duties of a fitness instructor and personal trainer as needed.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate records of staff certifications.
  • Employ strategies to increase member engagement and member retention by staff.
  • Develops, produces and disseminates appropriate program information in order to promote health and wellness to the public and to current members.
  • Maintains fitness equipment and facilities, including purchasing recommendations, maintenance and repairs.
  • Manages department budgets to ensure financial stability.
  • Provides data and reports on assigned programs in support of the planning process of the family center and Association.
  • Monitors daily operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.
  • Maintains relationships with staff, volunteers, and community partners; provides staff leadership for the annual fundraising campaign and other committees as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, recreation or equivalent preferred or a minimum of two years experience in health/fitness field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Possess required certifications in group exercise and personal training
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience in health and wellness preferred.
  • Ability to train fitness staff, including, but not limited to group exercise instructors, personal trainers, and fitness attendants.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the recruitment, training, and supervision of professional staff, para-professional staff, and volunteers preferred.
  • Must have good interpersonal, public relations, and communication skills, including the ability to make oral presentations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with members, staff, peers, volunteers, and supervisor; ability to effectively communicate information on all YMCA programs.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass Criminal Background Check and MVR- Motor Vehicle (must have insurable driver’s record)
  • Must possess current CPR Pro/AED, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, Child Abuse Prevention, Blood borne Pathogens and other trainings and certifications required by association.
  • Must possess the skills to operate standard office and computer equipment, data management, organizational and budgeting skills.
  • Must obtain and remain compliant with all training standards assigned by the YMCA of the USA and AMA YMCA.
  • Commitment to the Y mission, vision and goals of long term health.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $14.50 - $18.00
