The Aquatics Coordinator assists in supervising and coordinating the operations of the aquatics program. He/she will provide quality swim lesson and swim team programs, maintain efficiency and effectiveness in lifeguard and swim instructor scheduling and management, and provide a safe and effective aquatics environment. The successful employee will model the behavioral values established by the Association and will have a passion and enthusiasm for the mission of the Y.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assist Director of Sports & Aquatics in providing proper day-to-day supervision of assigned aquatic programs including recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, correcting, and evaluating lifeguards, swim instructors, and swim team coaches to ensure coverage meets association standards.
  • Ensure quality lifeguarding and swim lesson programs.
  • Maintain aquatics program areas and equipment with high attention to safety and cleanliness.
  • Assist with program promotion.
  • Be actively involved with ordering and stocking supplies for aquatics.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping.
  • Assist in performing required safety drills and employee in-services.
  • Assist in bi-weekly payroll duties for aquatics staff.
  • Lifeguard and teach classes as necessary.
  • Assist with ensuring proper pool chemistry and pool maintenance; keep proper pool chemical log.
  • Assist in scheduling private lessons, private parties, and backyard lessons.
  • Manage emails and phone calls related to aquatics.
  • Lead and motivate aquatics staff.
  • Make good decisions and exercise mature judgment.
  • Aid in preparation for swim meets as necessary.
  • Recruit prospective members and provide information about YMCA membership and aquatics fee structures.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures and completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Maintain effective communication with aquatic participants and their guardians.
  • Cross-promote YMCA programs and services continually.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Apply and comply with all YMCA policies and procedures and exemplify the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.
  • Adhere to all risk management and safety practices of the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA.
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or GED required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age;
  • Must have an aquatic background including knowledge in lifeguarding, instructing swim lessons, and training.
  • Requires current certification in Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, CPR PRO, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration.
  • CPO or POOL certification preferred.
  • Minimum of two years experience in aquatics.
  • Basic computer knowledge and office skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, speaking politely, clearly, and articulating accurate information.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work effectively with a diversity of people, different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and all ages. Interacts regularly with members, volunteers, staff and other community leaders.
  • Must have Child Abuse Prevention, Blood borne Pathogens training, hazard communication, slips, trips, and falls training, new hire orientation and any other trainings required.  
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $13.75 - $15.00
