Under the direction of the Youth Program & Day Camp Director and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the Ann Arbor YMCA, the Assistant Director of Day Camp & Youth Programs (Ypsilanti) shall be responsible for the direction and coordination of community programming in Eastern Washtenaw County and will be a positive point of contact for both parents & participants. The Assistant Director of Day Camp & Youth Programs (Ypsilanti) will serve participants in YMCA community initiatives including, but not limited to, afterschool, weekend and summer camp programs. The incumbent must demonstrate, through performance, the four (4) core values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and help represent the YMCA mission, policies, character development, HEPA (Healthy Eating and Physical Activity) standards and Global Learning objectives. The Assistant Director of Day Camp & Youth Programs (Ypsilanti) is responsible for the recruitment, hiring and training of all program instructors and camp staff.
- Create opportunities for healthy living through programs that encourage physical activity and healthy eating.
- Directly facilitate youth sports, physical activity, and recreation programs in a safe, organized manner.
- Plan and coordinate community programming in Eastern Washtenaw County including, but not limited to: Ypsilanti afterschool, weekend and summer programming; Bright Futures programming; East Washtenaw Basketball League, GetFit; National Heritage Academy programs, and Day Camp programs.
- Provide on-site supervision and direction to YMCA summer day camp program in Eastern Washtenaw County.
- Responsible for hiring, on-boarding and supervision of all program staff, both school-year and day camp.
- Promote Youth Community programs and camps and seek new opportunities to expand programming and increase community engagement and awareness of YMCA programs.
- Develop all program curriculum and integrate HEPA framework into youth programs and provide opportunities for increased parent exposure and involvement.
- Develop and deliver training for YMCA program staff and volunteers including program specific training, as well as training related to HEPA initiatives the CATCH curriculum.
- Responsible for providing metrics and information related to community youth programming to grantors and partners, including to but not limited to: MDHHS, MHEF, State Alliance of YMCA’s.
- Participates as a member of the Day Camp Upgrade team, working in collaboration with other program leaders to ensure strong program fidelity.
- Develop and enhance community relationships with parents, school administrators and community partners.
- Demonstrate sound judgment when dealing with daily issues in a variety of situations and with people of all socioeconomic levels.
- Possess working knowledge of child abuse and neglect laws and proper reporting procedures.
- Communicate, maintain, and model expectations to all youth and staff.
- Monitor needed equipment for Youth Community programs.
- Under the supervision of the Youth Program & Day Camp Director, this position will develop and be responsible for executing related program budgets.
- Work with Communications/Donor Relations Director to develop and refine program brochures and all related releases and brochures as necessary.
- Assist with the delivery of Healthy Kids Day activities.
- Assist with the Annual Campaign; recruit volunteers for Ypsilanti Team.
- Assist with Association special events as assigned.
- Minimum age 21 is required.
- One to three years of YMCA or related experience in staff supervision of community-based programs is preferred.
- Team Leader certification is preferred or commitment to attain within 2 years.
- Experience in budget development and fiscal management is preferred.
- Must be capable of using MS Office software; Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Must be able to learn and use YMCA specific software within 30 days of employment.
- Certifications in CPR & First Aid are required and must be maintained.
- Must successfully pass background check and complete YMCA Child Abuse Safety training prior to employment.
- Must have use of reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Must successfully pass requirements to be placed on YMCA’s motor vehicle insurance.
- Ability to obtain a chauffeur’s driver’s license is preferred.
- Understanding of program development, staff and volunteer training and development, fiscal management, and life spans of programs are a necessity.
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, organizational abilities, supervisory skills, and initiative in program development.
- Demonstrated capacity and exposure working with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
Salary: $32,810.00 - $36,911.00
