The Program Director is responsible for the successful operation and administration of sports and teens programs at the Independent Health Family Branch YMCA. This position will also develop and implement outreach programs in Buffalo, Lackawanna, and Niagara Falls.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops, directs and implements youth sports and teen programs, and adult sports leagues. Ensures high-quality programs, establishes new program activities and ensures program enrollment targets are met.
  • Identifies and pursues opportunities for outreach programming in underserved communities. Develops and implements programs and events based on community needs. Collaborates with community partners to engage and educate the community about the Y and its mission.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs program employees and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Maintains accurate records of staff certifications.
  • Develops and manages the staff schedule and program menu for assigned programs. Fills in for unplanned absences of program staff.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Exercises necessary controls to ensure operations are carried out and a balanced fiscal operation exists.
  • Develops the operating schedule for related programs.
  • Manages birthday party rentals.
  • Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures are followed. Evaluates program effectiveness. Monitors daily operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of program equipment.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  • Responds to all inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Provides staff leadership for the annual campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Maintains proper records and department files.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness. Develops and implements action plans in response to customer feedback.
  • Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  • Carries out other tasks as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in recreation or physical education, a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years of related experience, with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to direct assigned operations including supervision and development of staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use analytical, interpretative and evaluative thought in making decisions and solving problems.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office software.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $43,300.00
