Directs all aspects of membership for the branch including recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.  Develops, plans, communicates, and implements new methods to achieve membership goals. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Builds relationships with members; helps members connect with one another and become engaged within the Y. Facilitates and manages a cause-driven tour schedule. Follows up on all tour sales, reports on member conversion rates and implements a follow up plan for tours not sold.
  • Implements membership strategies that promote recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.  Provides direction and training to staff to support membership development and retention goals.  Identifies and resolves problem areas to ensure member satisfaction. 
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs employees, including facility supervisors and volunteers.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance.  Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.  Ensures that front desk and program staff are informed and able to communicate information to members and guests effectively. 
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position.  Exercises necessary controls to ensure operations are carried out and a balanced fiscal operation exists. 
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members.  Coordinates marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides support to program directors on related issues.
  • Conducts YMCA membership trainings, such as Creating the Member Experience, Keys to Member Engagement, and Building Communities.
  • Organizes membership events and represents and promotes the YMCA at community Health and Wellness events.
  • Develops and implements marketing strategies to promote the Independent Health Family Branch YMCA in the community.  Follows all Association marketing and communications guidelines as directed.
  • Provides staff leadership for the Annual Campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Develops effective working relationships with service groups, community organizations and companies.  Makes presentations to promote membership and projects a positive image of the YMCA to the community.
  • Maintains member records and department files.
  • Implements survey collection procedures.  Evaluates membership practices and responds to customer feedback.
  • Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years of related experience, preferably in a sales and marketing environment.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • YMCA certification to teach membership courses preferred or certified within one year of employment.
  • Ability to direct assigned operations including training staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use analytical, interpretative and evaluative thought in making decisions and solving problems. 
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,560.00
