This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direct supervision to School Age Child Care Director, Early Childhood Education Director, Registrar and Cook.  Provides leadership to develop, organize and implements high quality YMCA School Age Childcare, Early Childhood Education and Camp programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides leadership to childcare department directors and manages, directs and coordinates the school age, early childhood education and camp programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists in the recruitment, hiring, training and development of schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position and assists in the preparation of departmental budgets pertaining to childcare. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring and monitoring menu quality.
  • Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are established, met and safety procedures followed.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Evaluates program statistics to monitor the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Organizes special events for parents. 
  • Provides staff leadership for annual fundraising campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and in accordance with the planned Chart of Work and that which supports the branch and association initiatives.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in recreation, elementary education or related field or equivalent preferred. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Within 90 days of hire must complete Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens, Mandated Reporter and DHS Health and Safety.
  • Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards (if any) and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $36,000.00 - $38,000.00
