We are seeking a highly motivated team member who can contribute to the growing YMCA Child Care. Candidates for this position must have strong relationship building and communication skills, and a passion for working with children and their families. Candidates will oversee all aspects of our Pre-School Child Care and Summer Day Camp Program, managing 4 full-time Coordinators, 15 full-time teachers and 50 plus part-time staff, at 3 different sites. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages, directs and coordinates the pre-school child care programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities and curriculum. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Manages, directs and coordinates the school age child care programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities and curriculum. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. 
  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program growth; Measures progress against goals and ensures continuous improvement.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the child care operating budget to meet or exceed budget targets; Uses data to analyze enrollment trends and forecast enrollment. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. 
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other agencies;Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to child care; Ensures that YMCA safety standards are met and procedures followed.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the community; Develops, maintains, and models collaborative, positive relationships with other organizations, businesses, community agencies and governmental entities; Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  • Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned; Plans and coordinates YMCA child care special events and fundraisers. 
  • Manages grant proposal development, compliance monitoring and reporting process; Researches potential funders and develops grant proposals to help fund YMCA child care.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of YMCA child care information.
  • Serves as a member of Y management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Associates Degree in related field or equivalent preferred as described in the Minnesota Administrative Code; Bachelor’s degree desired in Education, Child Development, Recreation or a related field to meet licensing requirements.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three or more years of related management experience, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care or education programs
  • The Child Care Center Director must be at least 21 years of age
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED and Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
