As Director, Alumni Engagement, you will boldly pave the way to connect the 220 New Mexico alumni to each other, to opportunities in our communities, and to the work of Teach For America. You will support the efforts of our recently launched alumni board as well as create spaces for alumni to connect, learn from one another, and self-organize around shared goals.
You are driven by the potential to create more energy around educational equity in New Mexico. You excel as a relationship builder, community organizer, and communicator. You are visionary, get energy from interacting with others, are excited by planning and facilitating alumni events, and are a champion for Teach For America while also being open to hearing critical feedback. You will report to the Managing Director of Collective Leadership Engagement.
60% Mobilize the New Mexico Alumni Community to Create Change
- Develop a vision for alumni engagement connected to our regional vision
- Support the New Mexico regional Alumni Board, a group of senior alumni within the state working in alignment with our regional vision to execute opportunities to connect and mobilize the base
- Inspire alumni to create new school models, initiatives, organizations, and programs to grow the New Mexico education ecosystem
- Rally alumni around the possibility that the energy around education in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and across New Mexico can be as vibrant as anywhere else in the nation
- Design and create spaces for alumni to connect, learn from one another, and self-organize around shared goals
- Meet with alumni and welcome them into the New Mexico alumni community
- Maintain regular communication with the New Mexico alumni community
15% Alumni Cultivation and Records Maintenance
- Meet with second year corps members and alumni to build relationships, listen to feedback about Teach For America New Mexico’s alumni engagement efforts and/or match alumni to leadership opportunities
- Administer the annual alumni survey and ensure our data systems are accurate
10% Regional Staff Member Responsibilities
- Participate in selection, matriculation, recruitment responsibilities
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and retreats
- Attend regional events, including corps member trainings, induction, and orientation
15% Based on Prior Experience and Interest
In addition to mobilizing the alumni community, alumni cultivation and records maintenance, and regional staff member responsibilities, the Director of Alumni Engagement position will include additional responsibilities based on team needs as well as your prior experience and interest. These areas could include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting the development team with fundraising efforts
- Supporting new corps member confirmation and matriculation into the region
- Supporting the cultivation and maintenance of external partnerships
- Supporting Teacher Leadership Development programming
- Supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness programming at the Teach For America staff and corps member levels
- Four to seven years of work experience
- Teach For America corps member experience required
- Two years of recruitment, event planning, adult learning facilitation or community organizing preferred.
- Deep connection in New Mexico preferred.
