The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Association of New York State (CDPAANYS), a fast-growing statewide association, is looking for a Policy Analyst to join our team and help strengthen and grow the ability of seniors and people with disabilities to live independently in their own home through the use of Consumer Directed Personal Assistance (CDPA).
The individual occupying this position will be an integral part of CDPAANYS team, working with the Executive Director to develop and implement a Legislative and Budget agenda. He or she should be able to think critically and distill complicated documents into a form that is easily understandable to diverse populations. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is imperative.
- Represent CDPAANYS before elected officials, state agency representatives, and in coalitions;
- Coordinate with the Executive Director and allied organizations to develop campaign plans around key initiatives;
- Analyze the State Budget and legislation critical to the interests of CDPA;
- Provide support to CDPAANYS member organizations to aid them in developing plans to engage their consumers around CDPAANYS agenda items;
- Support CDPAANYS Government Affairs Cmte. and Consumer Cmte. to facilitate and maximize their role in developing and supporting CDPAANYS agenda;
- Participate as a part of a communications team to plan identify potential media opportunities, craft press releases, and coordinate press conferences;
- Aid CDPAANYS in building a strong grassroots presence throughout New York State;
- Research and prepare reports, legislative memoranda, talking points, and other documents as needed; and
- Other duties as necessary.
Some statewide travel is necessary for this position.
- A strong commitment to ensuring the rights of all individuals to live in the community;
- A knowledge of the New York State legislative process;
- A knowledge of the Medicaid program and/or managed care and managed long-term care;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse range of audiences;
- An understanding of effective organizing methods and techniques; and
- An ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
