The Stewardship GIS Information Manager maintains spatial databases related to lands owned by TNC in New York and provides technical assistance to Conservancy team members. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Stewardship GIS Information Manager develops and maintains spatial data on TNC-owned lands and TNC-held conservation easements using surveys, deeds and field data collected by land stewards. 

Managing TNC NY Conservation Lands and Stewardship data:
Improves accuracy of GIS boundary data of our fee and easement lands.  This will include creating preserve and easement boundaries layer using metes and bounds and scan and georeference surveys.  Manages Stewardship geodatabase by Identifying data gaps in trails, infrastructure, etc. Informs regional stewardship manager of data gaps and potentially assist regional stewardship managers in field data collection and verification to fill in data gaps. Assists in creating standardized form and database to manage Research Requests on TNC Preserves.

Enhancing visitor experience at TNC NY preserves:
Uses new approved template to create standardized maps of all visitor preserves in NY that show trails, parking lots, visitor infrastructure, boundaries, etc.  Formats maps for use on our kiosk and download from website. Updates TNC visitor preserve information on Google Maps to ensure NY’s entire portfolio of visitor preserves are searchable, accurate and have links pointing back to nature.org.

Resilience analyses of preserves:
Works with Forest Team on looking at terrestrial resilience analysis of preserves, and Climate Adaptation team leading an aquatic resilience analysis of preserves. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Ensures integrity of both data collection and management relating to lands owned by TNC and TNC-held conservation easements.
  • Provides technical assistance to field staff in collecting data and proper attribution.
  • Works and communicates effectively with a diverse group of people, including scientists, stewardship team, legal team and others, providing and obtaining needed information.   
  • Resolves routine issues independently.
  • Manages, maintains, and populates databases using computer spatial or tabular based management skills.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS or Associates degree in related field and 1-year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience maintaining and populating databases and manual files.
  • Experience producing maps and/or other graphic products and reports. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and web browsers.                                                                                          

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • 1-2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience using GPS data collection devices in the field. Use of Collector a plus.
  • Knowledge in use of ESRI software products including ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcGIS Pro. 
  • Familiarity with land surveys legal real estate documents.  
  • Ability to perform administrative duties emphasizing detail-oriented and numerical tasks including data entry.
  • Database and computer spatial or tabular based management skills including managing, maintaining and populating databases.  
  • Builds, populates and produces reports from databases. 
  • Manages and prioritizes tasks from multiple sources.
  • Communicates clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in English.
